I have a conference database on Microsoft
Excel, with lists of names and information
on a grid table.

Can this information be imported to the
PALM/VISOR software?

If so, under which function does it get
imported to and how?

I've heard that MiniCalc and TinySheet are two really good programs. I've not used either one, but you can find them both at www.palmgear.com. Good luck!

Thanks to you, I downloaded TINYSHEET.

My next question is this...

I don't have my VISOR yet.

I do have the PALM software installed
on my desktop computer, and I wish to import the TINYSHEET program into it.

I have clicked on the TINYSHEET "prc"
file and it says that it will be installed
into my HOTSYNCH file.

I do not see it yet in my PALM software
on my computer. How can I import it to that
so I may start trying it now?

Ron -

By saying that you have Palm loaded on your desktop I'm assuming you have the Palm emulator installed? If this is true then you will need to right click on the emulator and select the Install Application/Database option and choose Other... and then select your PRC file.

If this isn't what you have than I guess I'll need some more detail to see what's going on.

edit version: I just realized that you may be talking about your Palm Desktop software. If this is the case than I don't think there is anything that you can do. Sorry for the bad news...

Emulator?

I don't think so.

I installed PALM DESKTOP. This is
what was reccomended to me when I asked
for the OS software that goes into the
VISOR handheld. Version 3.0.1

You see, I won't get my VISOR for a
week, and I wanted to start entering
data, which I am now doing.

Now this COULD be the EMULATOR, but
I don't think so.

I'd love to have the EMULATOR if one
exists - and if it does - please direct
me to the exact download area to get it.

Ron,

Are you trying to import the spreadsheet as a spreadsheet into the Visor, or are you trying to get information from the spreadsheet into you Address Book? I only ask because of your related question in another post.

If it's the latter, then you can save your Excel sheet as a CSV and import into the desktop. When you import, the desktop software will prompt for the file name, and then will allow you to map the fields from the csv file to the desktop software.

Also note that I am a Palm user, not Visor, and I've assumed that the PIM that ships with Visor is the same or similar to the Palm Desktop. In either case, there will be a way to import a text file.

To get the emulator you have to goto Palm's main site www.palm.com. It's in their Development Zone area. Only problem is you have to sign a bunch of forms and mail 'em in before they'll send you the Palm ROM. So, you'd probably get your Visor before they sent you the ROM file, unless you know someone that has a Palm/Pilot and then you can use their Palm to get your ROM image.

amazing syncing with excel. transparent syncing and you have a fully functional version of excel right on your visor. any changes made to spreadsheets on your visor or on you PC get synced whenever you hotsync.

I've been using it for a week and it is VERY impressive.

In EXCEL, there is no option to save
my spreadsheet as a "csv" file. Could
you tell me which option I should save
the file as?

Also, back to the PALM software -- which
category do I import the EXCEL "csv" file
to? There is no database category -- the
closest thing I see is MEMO.

I suppose I am looking for detailed
information on doing this correctly.

I just put a request in to download
the 14-day trial version of QUICKSHEET.

Once I get it, I will need some instruction
of where exactly to import it and how.
If a manual comes with this, I should be ok.

I have Excel 2000, and it has the option to save to a cvs file. What version do you have?

I agree that Quicksheet is great! I didn't hesitate to shell out the $49.95 for it. You can save to and open from the Palm/Visor files quickly and easily.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get QuickChart to work. There's an awful lot of documentation to go thru...

Ron,

Click the 'File' menu, then 'Save As'. In the 'Save as type:' drop down their should be a choice for CSV, which is aka Comma Seperated Values, aka Comma delimited.

In a previous post you mentioned that you had Contact information in Excel format. If that's what we're dealing with here, then you would import this into Address.

Of course if you want to keep all of this data in spreadsheet format, then ignore my comments and use one of the palm spreadsheet apps mentioned in this thread.
