More MiniJam Questions
Hi everyone
I am intending to buy a MiniJam module hopefully in the next few weeks, when they get stock of the 256Mb versions. But I wonder if I could ask existing owners the following questions:
1. I was poking around on Innogear's web site and in their FAQs it seems to indicate that I HAVE to revert to HotSync v3.1 from v 3.5 in order for the HotSync of .mp3 files to the Visor to work. I have a Prism, which came with v3.5 already installed on it, and I really don't fancy the idea of having to go through all this hassle. Is it REALLY necessary? Has anyone successfully managed to upload files onto the MiniJam using v3.5?
2. Just how long does it take to transfer files? I was looking at their Speedloader, but that isn't apparently compatible with Windows2000 Service Packs, which seems a bit stupid.
3. Are there any other compatibility issues / known problems with the installed software? Are all the applications pre-loaded on the Springboard module, or do you have to load anything actually onto your Visor? I'm down to only 603k of free RAM!!
Any advice on the above would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Jules

Please note that this update is only for the original SpeedLoader. This fix is not required with the new SpeedLoader 2 (Pocket Reader).

Re vera, potas bene.
BTW - he is asking about HOTSYNC version 3.5 not the actual OS verision.
As for the speed - INVEST in the speed loader!!!! Loading music through the cradel is mind numbingly slow - I would say on the average of 40 minutes for 64mb. With the Speed loader the stock 64mb card (sandisk I think?) loads at 100kbytes/sec (~10 minutes for the whole thing) with a different brand 64mb card I got TWICE the transfer rate (speedloader) of 220k/sec and now with a pair of 128mb Kodak MMC cards I get 320k/sec loading speed! Needless to say the speedloader is a MUST!
Yep...my bad. Sorry about that!!!

Re vera, potas bene.
Hi folks - thanks for your replies.
This is the detail from the Innogear Q&A pages that caused my question:
Q. I get an error when trying to download MP3 files from MJLoader to my Visor via the Sync Cradle. What is the problem?
A. Check the length of the File name. If the name of the file and the path (c:\My Music\file name.mp3) is longer than 74 characters including the .mp3 extension, you will get an error. Shorten the file name and try to transfer it again.
If you just bought a new Visor with HotSync version 3.5 or above, or if you are using Palm Inc's version of Palm Desktop, then you must DOWNGRADE to Handspring's HotSync version 3.1hb. You can do this by going to a hidden page on Handspring's website:
http://www.handspring.com/support/d...mdesktop3.1.exe
The HotSync is included as part of the Palm Desktop downgrade. For this to work, you will have to uninstall the existing Palm Desktop and MJLoader applications first. Then Install Palm Desktop 3.1hb and MJLoader from scratch. Since you are installing MJLoader again, you should use the latest version. The latest version of MJLoader is included in the MiniJam Update download.
Now the version of Palm Desktop that came with my Prismn is 3.1, but the HotSync version is definitely 3.5. I can't believe there could be such a problem between different versions of the software!
With regard to the Speedloader - I have to admit that I didn't notice that there are two versions of the product. I will get in touch with Innogear (again!) and try to find out if the later version IS compatible with Win2K or not.
Cheers
Jules
