HS ... It's All The Same To Them

Anybody been at the HS web site lately?

Ladies and Gentlemen, now you can get your choice of a Reconditioned Visor Neo, Platinum, or Deluxe for the same price of $99.00 ????

Or, how 'bout a brand new(?) Platinum for $129.00.

Pretty soon we're going to see the Treos heading south of the border also.

I've given up writing to them (no staff to read the email probably) and I think we can declare HS inertia an epidemic.

Companies, like people, sometimes just get bored and don't want to play anymore.

Wish they'd trun their toys over to some other needy kids who'd appreciate them and take better care of them.

Somebody should suggest to them that it's time to take your executive perks and close up shop.

Coaster!

I just recommended that a friend buy a refurbed Platinum for $99. When you compare it to the new Palm Zire it is a steal. But I can't for the life of me imagine someone taking a refurbed VDX for the same price. Maybe as a collector's item.

Or maybe its that the colorful VDX line will make prettier coasters...

I won't bite on a discount Prism until the bottom out at $125.

The problem there is that they've been sitting on a shelf somewhere for who knows how long and those delightful rechargeable batteries are aging away (not gracefully, I bet).

The whole HS website is getting pretty wierd. No information on models, switching around reconditioned stuff and now a new Plat is down to $129.00.

For kicks, I got out my magnifying glass to really check out my Neo and nowhere could I find any reference to Neo on it. Makes me wonder if Neo and Plat parts are being sold interchangeably -the cradles are the same now, etc.

Even with Neo, Plat, DX all at $99.00, things are beginning to seem just a wee bit fishy.

I don't smell anything fishy, merely a company trying desperately to liquidate outdated products...

...I think people make too much of the Prism battery situation...there are enough battery resellers out there who will be offering work-arounds for the tens of thousands of Prisms out there...I wouldn't buy one with the intent of keeping it more than two years anyway...

In defense of Handspring, even Palm is selling many PDA's for $99.

Zire is $99.......along with M105's and you can even find M125's for $99 brand new now. Does this mean Palm is going out of business? No they just want to get rid of old models. And this is exactly what Handspring is doing. It doesn't necessarily imply that they are going out of business or something.

That's true, but we have to remember what Ed Colligan said in that video at TreoCentral. The Visor Line is OUT! Treo's are IN?! He also said that the Visor line will be out of stores and out of their website in a few months, and they will never bring it back, (unless they see that the Treo line was bad right when they started).

The problem with getting rid of old models is they don't have any new models to replace them. Over in another forum someone wrote that they're expecting to be bought by a cellphone company by the end of the year. $299 for a Treo 90? Even throwing in a cheap DVD player that's no bargain.

Flash Forward from Original Post

Interesting to note:

Handspring is still offering Visor Neo, Plat, & Deluxe refurbs for $99 (I think with free shipping)
while-
places like Amazon, Ebay, etc. have listings mostly well above $99 for same or less (plus shipping).

Also, anyone seen a Blue Neo? Seems like they're all ice. Did I really buy the last new Blue Neo? (or is somebody hoarding)
