eyemodule2 talking movies
This may have already been posted... but I couldn't find it on a search. I just got the eyemodule2 and it works great with my Edge. The pictures I take are nice and in color when I see them on my PC after I've sync'ed up. But any movies that I capture in b/w on the Edge are still b/w when I view it on my PC.
So my question is... if the b/w pictures on the Edge view as color on the PC, then how come the movies that I capture don't do the same thing? I know I could just get the Prisim... but I still like my Edge (although my happiness with it is decreasing every day due to the lack of support... like the stowaway keyboard!).
Am I outta luck (which I assume I am)? If somebody knows specifically why this is... please explain!
Thanks,
-chris
Chris,
I think that the EM2 is limited to B&W for the mini movies. I use the EM2 with my Deluxe, and I know I will run out of memory if I take too many pictures/movies.
Color movies would take up even more memory...my poor 8MB Deluxe would not be able to handle it, thus using the EM would have too many limitations such as taking only 1 color movie with all existing memory.
I imagine that in future generations of the EM, there will be color movies with sound. We'll need way more than 8MB to handle that!

Maybe my original assumption that the Prisim-eyemodule2 combo would produce color mini-movies. I honestly don't know.... since I don't own a Prisim. Does any prisim owners out there have an eyemodule2... and if they do could they comment on this?
Thanks,
-chris

Have you gone to the Eyemodule website and looked around for the answer?

the em2 will take take only color movies in a color visor, and only BW movies on BW visors.
same with thumbnails sized pictures.

The sensor puts out data that can be displayed on the screen, then this data is stored as the movie frame. There isn't enough time to put out displayable B&W data AND color data to capture. You may notice that your color Full size pictures are sometimes slightly different than the image on the visor--this is because when you press the button to capture a picture, it quickly switches modes to color jpeg output (which the visor can't display directly) and captures that data, meaning that the color image is a fraction of a second later than your preview image. At 8fps, there isn't enough time to switch back and forth for each frame.
And color movies do take up more space than B&W ones--a Prism can hold only about 30s of movies, but a 8MB B&W device gets about 2 min.
Hope that helps!
When all else fails, . . .
See EyeModule 2 User's Manual, page 9, at the bottom:
"Note: Only a color Handspring handheld will capture color Mini-Movies. B&W Visor handhelds can only capture B&W Mini-Movies."
