-- READ THIS!!!! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=171)
Reading all of these messages about not being in the system I got worried. I called to make sure and had a friendly chat with the rep. He said (in a nice way) that they have been so bogged down with calls etc. that they have been real busy with shipping and updatung etc.
Now, my question is this...you can't wait for the things to be shipped in a month!! Honestly, do you need them THAT bad? 5 years ago these things didn't even exist. Relax, make up your color choice and stop calling because they will come when they come.

We love you too nicholasr.
nicholasr,
Just trying to get a rise from the crowd, huh? My guess would be that everyone's concern is that their order isn't in the system at all, not that their Visor is delayed in shipping.
BTW, hate to say it, but I guess you fall into the "nerd" & "wierdo" catergory too, since you not only called Handspring about your order, but also posted the results here on this forum. Besides, everyone feels anticipation for a new toy. I don't think that makes someone wierd or a nerd. so I guess if I had to sum up, I could do it in two words: bite me (or maybe three: bite me, nerd.)
Tell him, Hawkeye.
Hawkeye,
I anticipated that response...I wouldn't have been concerned at all about my order, nor would I have called if the rumor chain didn't start on here. Therefore, I don't fall into that catagory. I thought that i would find USEFUL information here, but instead all I see is whining about shipping.
Utterly ridiculous.
Well, I know that you usually find what you set out to look for.
I've found lots of useful information here, personally. Interesting to see what different people are being told by the CSRs - very inconsistent, but it's not without a pattern.
I'm eager to get mine, impatient to see it, and you know what? That's normal, human, and completely excusable. I might even enjoy sharing my feelings with like-minded individuals. I'm a grown-up, I can handle waiting, but I like the fact that I can share the anticipation. If you don't enjoy it - then don't!
I'm looking forward to the first post that says "I got mine!"
And what sort of useful information were you looking for?
I find it funny that he claims we're all weirdos and nerds because of the complaints of shipping and calls to customer service - then he claims he's "exempt" from being a nerd OR a weirdo because he ONLY CALLED customer service because of what he read on here. Very interesting. And what of the others who only called for that reason... are they nerds and weirdos too? I for one am proud to fly my freak flag, buddy, and you better bet your last dollar that I'm waiting with anticipation the arrival of my beautiful blue Visor Deluxe!
Darnit!! I've been called a geek and a nerd all my life only to find out that I'm NOT one because I DIDN'T call Customer Service at all after I placed my order.
Now I'm lost in the identity-ocean!!
Of course, I did email Jeff directly... maybe that makes me an UBER-Nerd!!!
No - I think in geek speak, you would be a Nerd++.
Isn't customer service farmed out to N.Y. state? Calling them multiple times when they are so far from HQ is worthless. Those people get paid by how many orders they handle not by how many calls they receive..my guess.
Handspring has stated they'd ship in October and I recorded the specfic date and time and contact in my Palm V when I ordered on the 14th of Sept. I'll wait for the email and be happy.
Everyone just stay off of the phones!
I have some experience in this type of work, and most of the CSRs are temps. Some might not understand totally what's going on, some might be totally with it, some might be career with the company-type non-temps, some might just view it as a stupid job and just tell anyone anything to get them off the phone with them.
Not saying they're bad people, mind you, that makes them a lot more like normal people.
But farmed out to NY means that your most reliable news source is going to be out here on the Net with us weirdos and geeks, who devote ourselves to finding official information ahead of time and sharing it with the rest.
Not that that's necessarily a good thing.... sigh.... anyway, just thought I should speak up there. We've gotten pretty off subject here.
Let me qualify 'all of you'
'All of you' refers to those who have called multiple times to get the same response over and over again.
Remember, patience is a virtue.
Moose, how can you expect to remember the date accurately if you stored it on a Palm V? The Visors are going to dominate the Palms, and your Palm V knows it! It's going to lie to you and do everything in its power to keep you from replacing it.
Sorry. Bad joke. Still, it seems humorously ironic that you're storing the date of it's own demise on your Palm V.
Seems like we're getting all stressed out over this visor thang. Seems like a frenzy to me.
This is kinda fun!
It's withdrawal symptoms. Handspring gave us all a tiny dose of their drug, just by coming into existence and advertising the Visor. Then they put up their site, and showed us pictures, thereby giving us another dose. They keep upping the doseage - letting us place orders on 9/14, showing us more pictures, more press releases, etc. I think we're all getting to the point that we need a really big hit of pure, undiluted Visor.
We should all relax because we're giddy to try these but we're really paying our own money to be Handspring's field testers!!
Why do you think Visors aren't going to stores yet? We'll find out where the bugs are for them, then the fixes will be in place when the public gets 'em in the spring.
So yes, we're geeks (and proud!) and we're new-tech gamblers -- but these things won't save our lives. We should think of it more as an experiment than a "christmas present." And chill.
Bugs? I didn't think these things were coming from Redmond! hehehe
I just received my Visor today, It's so nice, Its so cool, everyone is looking at my toy.....
NOT !
This is just to let everyone know that I am a rep who sell equipment for biotech (sophisticated high price low volume).
When have a shipping hold on a product because of small bugs our customers complain on bad delivery.
When we ship something ahead of time with a bug, our customers complain about having bugs.
We can be conservative, we can be aggressive. Either way, always complaints, our actual sales job is not to promote but rather to shut the complainer up...Kudos for Handspring, regardless what anybody say, they have held a straight answer for all of us, its delirious to say they didn't, they always said middle of October and never changed one iota,...they have been very tight and very well managed, a rare thing in tech bus. Anybody *****ing about their business practices are not in business.
Yes, I have to say that I agree with Nicholas, although I would have chosen language that's a bit less perjorative than "nerd," etc.
Sure, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas to arrive, and I get on the Net several times a day, just hoping that I got my "Your Visor's on the way!" e-mail. And yes, I've been called a nerd many times in my life!
Nonetheless, I also think we could maintain some perspective. I agree that it's a damned if you do (ship it with bugs) and damned if you don't (make us wait for it). More than that, I don't think it's worth getting all uptight about. Who cares if they write my order down on paper? Who cares if they're in NY? I'm sure Handspring is on them to give them records they can ship from as soon as they have units to ship.
I guess the thing that bothers me most is how angry people seem because they don't have their new Visor toys. When I compare my anxiety with what two thirds of the world must feel as they wonder if they will have enough food for themselves and their children, I figure I can wait a little longer for my new toy. We ARE pretty spoiled here in America!
I've been thinking this for awhile, but haven't said anything. Thanks, Nick, for bringing this up!
