-- Backup Module vs Backup Buddy (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5429)
Curious about pros and cons of the Springboard Backup Module vs Backup BuddyNG software.
Is there an obvious advantage of one over the other or do they povide essentially the same functions?
Get both.
Backup module for when you're on vacation, and Backup Buddy for every day. If I had to choose I'd get the module, but it's a (tiny) bit of a hassle although it can be used anywhere. Backup buddy works automatically but requires a computer.

If you have to choose one from them, I suggest the backup module, with which you can backup at any time. As for the daily backup to the PC, any software that can set/reset the backup bit for each database will just work fine. Examples are BackupAll, BackupBitster, Z'catalog or Pcompress. They cost little (most are free). The merit of BackupBuddy is that it automates everything for you so everyone can use it.
IcoEdit by Maple, an icon editing tool, will also allow you to set the backup bit. You have to do it for every application, though.

OK, it's not much of a hassle, except the fact you have to have a place to put the module (away from the Visor) and it takes forever. (What I do is start the backup when I don't need the Visor and then put the whole combo away. The backup will finish and the unit will shut itself off after a couple of minutes. I remove the module later on, the next time I use the Visor.) Plus, if you have other modules installed, you have to remove them first. Not a big deal though.
That's why I said "tiny" hassle.
