Check out this link: http://www.zdnetasia.com/stories/0,...0081580,00.html

It talks about Palms plans to suposedly replace all the Palms with the DRAM problem in Asia, don't know if it also follows that it will occur in the US. But here's the real kicker: The article says that Palm knew about the DRAM problem on May 30th!!! That explains how they could get the patch out "so quickly"! They knew about it for a month but didn't tell anyone!!! Based on that, I say congradulations to handspring for planing on having the patch out in 2 weeks!

Question

Come to think of it though, maybe Micron told handspring a month ago too? It'd be interesting to know if they did!

Cool

There's obviously no use whining about it anyways,... They were probably following good corporate sense and wanted to get all of their facts straight so that they could explain exactly what the problem is and how to fix it BEFORE making a series of public statements which needed to be corrected later due to more information coming out. They also probably wanted to confirm exactly how many PDAs were affected by it.

When it comes to licensing technology, typically those who licensed it find out about such problems before the general public does. In this way, all the licensees (Handpsring, TRG, Sony, Qualcomm, etc) can synchronize their attach on the problem.

Imagine if they didn't. Palm doesn't tell anyone, and releases the patch. Handspring gets caught off-guard. We gripe because our units are affected, Palm has a test and a fix out, but yet we haven't heard anything from our favorite company.

It's all about Public Relations.
