I belive that this comment was made in respect to the other phones that are going to attach to PDA's. The pdQ phone is just one of many phones that have a built in PDA, and I don't belive that it can be compared to the VisorPhone in it's marketing.

You can "belive" all you want but I believe the pdQ and QCP are exactly the same thing as a Visor and VisorPhone. Both use the PalmOS and have mobile phone capability, the only difference is the Handspring solution is two separate pieces.

Don't get me wrong I love my Visor Prism but this whole module thing is getting way out of hand. Many of the modules out there cost more than a Visor Deluxe. To get a Visor to do two or three different things you're going to end up spending almost a $1000 or even more. No module should cost more than the handheld it will work in.

Red face re: visor phone what a plot

Well this is my first post/thought/reply to anything that has been written here. I feel welcome. When i went to the handspring site and saw that the phone was $299.usd with a 'plan,' and $500.00 usd without a plan, there were a number of thoughts that crossed my mind. Firstly i am canadian, live in the province of manitoba. Your amarican dollar is worth 1.50 here. Secondly with my up and coming purchace of a visor platinum, that is costing me with all our taxes added in $500.00 canadian. To me, a student that is a whole lot of money. The phone therefore without a plan would cost me $750.00 canadian. This makes the phone/visor combo worth 1250.00. Thirdly i started to laugh... there is no way possible that the phone could be worth that... I was so surprised by the stand-alone price that i am a day later still smiling and shaking my head... The visor phone is not even close to being an option. My current cell phone and time package looks sweet and solid compared to the new offering from visor. All in all i wish the handspring company success, but i feel that if they push me away with the cost factor that maybe in the future i will not be as exited about a product that has in my opinion has been graced by an understanding/patient segment of consumers.

Rainmaker,

i am also in canada (toronto) and got a good laugh out of the price without a plan. (hell, i got a good laugh at the price *with* a plan.) i also wrote handspring to ask if they were out of their tree.

a short while back (just prior to buying my visor) i realized that i needed a contact manager as the paper thing just wasn't cutting it. i did some research and found the neopoint phone (http://www.neopoint.com/) which i bought (i believe it was $339 canadian). it was easily the best phone i'd ever used, interface-wise. extremely intuitive, a very smart phone.

however, the only company that would let you use it is bell. and bell's reception, frankly, sucks. so after 3 days i regrettably had to return the phone (and got my visor with the money).

now, i've spoken to neopoint since then and informed them of what a poor job bell does and they've told me that they've severed their agreement with bell and that their new phones will have a new carrier here.

though i love my visor, there is no way in hell that i'll pay $750 dollars for a PLUG IN phone. the new neopoints'll be half that, just as functional, sleeker, etc etc.

lastly, when i first heard about the visorphone, i contacted fido (local gsm provider) and they hinted that they may be getting the visorphone here but could not guarantee anything. should they do so, presumably the phone will drop substantially in price if you pick up one of their plans. i'll wait a while and see.

mc.
