-- The search for a serial cable (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3896)
I've been searching he Internet for someone whos selling serial cables for the Visor, and I don't want to make one
(My Visor is too expensive to be shorted out by a soldering error)
ATL Tech. sells one, but the minimum purchase is $65. Too expensive for just a serial cable. Does anyone know who sees these?
The MarkSpace DataCord ($29.95) is supposed to be released in late August or early September.
The new $65.00 minimum from ATL is a real bummer. I bought some HotSync connectors from them a while back (February/March) and built my own serial cable and they told me they were developing one of their own. I've been waiting for it to be released and now that it is, they impose a minimum purchase amount. Just my luck... maybe someone (like PalmGear, now the the VC Store is closing) will be selling them.

Try www.markspace.com. They have one that they are planning on releasing soon...
Oops -- guess I should have read the 1st reply a bit closer
Sorry!

I'm on a couple of mailing lists for using the Visor with Linux, and we occasionally get interesting posts. One of the other subscribers from the list happens to be a guy from Markspace. He chimed in on a discussion of getting the Visor to work as a dumb terminal, which would require a serial cable. Here is the part of his reply that would be relevant to this discussion (BTW his name is Brian Hall, and his email is [email protected]):
FYI: We have a line of cables coming out for the visor (both modem and
hotsync). They don't add CTS/RTS (can't make something from nothing!) but
the modem version will 'fake' DTR by having it always high (which the
serial cradle does not). So the modem cable will work in situations that
the Visor serial cradle + null modem adaptor would not.

If you need full RS232, eFig has an RS232 springboard module which is
excellent, but pricey ($130 or so?).

Those of you put off by ATL's $65 minimum order may want to check this post regarding the ATL group buy that I'm getting ready to make. I was expecting people to order modules and connectors, but there's no reason you can't order serial cables too
I want to place the order tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, so if you're interested, email me ASAP!
