Unhappy

Anyone know when they will begin taking orders for the HandyGPS??? Anyone actually have a Springboard????

I'm just as frustrated with getting my hands on Springboards as the next person. By the time a decent Springboard is available, my current Visor will probably be obsolete. As I'm sure there will be a better PDA out there.

I bought a Visor hoping to actually use the Springboard. I'm really disappointed thus far with the whole Springboard concept.

Don't get me wrong, the Visor is a great product that has exceeded my expectations, but I just want to be able to use it for what it is hyped to be. An expandable Palm OS device. So far it is just a better looking, faster, reasonably priced Palm 3.

Just needed to vent....

You know, I get a bit tired of reading from you people that are disappointed in the lack of Springboards on the market.

Don't you realize that it isn't up to HS to create the Springboards? They are merely creating the opportunity, and the MARKET will create the products.

When companies created the DVD Player, did you blame Pioneer and Sony, etc for the lack of DVD disks on the market?

Come on, you guys, I appreciate your interest in venting, but do you realize the cycle time in designing a new product, verifying that there is a market, developing production, testing to assure QC, and getting it to market? And the springboard has been on the market for how long?

Be patient, and enjoy the best PDA on the market. The springboards are coming, the springboards are coming, the springboards are coming.

JJR:

VisorCentral's modules page lists the HandyGPS's release as April, for what it's worth. Hopefully, it's not an April Fool.

Larry Chester:

A careful reading of JJR's post will show that he did not blame Handspring -- or even mention them. If you think that people seem impatient now, you should have seen the paroxysms of protest on this site around November. People were seriously discussing class action suits against Handspring! Some people will do anything to get their toys.

You guys are both right. I DON'T blame Handspring for the release of Springboards. That would be ridiculous. I have not had any problems with Handspring or my Visor itself whatsoever. I ordered my IDX in November and received it in less than 4 weeks. My plastic is not cracked, I have only had one hard reset, and I use my Visor every day.

It's just that I am as much a "gadget geek" as the next person. I just want some more toys.

I never intended to be negative, I just want my GPS, eyemodule, etc..... as I am sure you do too.

I agree with J^2R; although Handpsring is not to be blamed for the delays of these springboards, it's very difficult to remain patient.

I need my GPS and Eyemodule fix *NOW*!!

Gimme...gimme....gimme!

Although Handspring isnt to blame for the lack of Springboards, I might go so far as to say that their promotion of this feature is a bit deceiving. Now you can add more than just memory to your organizer. Handspring's Springboard external expansion slot makes adding a wide range of software and hardware modules a real snap! Just pick one out and snap it in.

Well, I sure dont see a wide range of software and hardware modules at least not for sale. Just pick one out they tell us. Hmmm, I have a tougher time picking out a tube of Crest toothpaste than I do a Springboard module!

The Visor is the best PDA on the market because of its Springboard capabilities. Without the Springboards, though, its just a Palm IIIxe.

BTW, when DVD first hit the market, I highly doubt Sony and Pioneer ever claimed that there were a wide range of movie titles available.

Show me the Springboards! Show me the Springboards! Show me the Springboards!

Navicom has announced they will be taking orders in April. See their website for details. They have generally responded to my queries for the GPS module and was the only reason I purchased the Handspring. I had an original Pilot and it was running out of steam.

I like this unit but am really itching for the GPS with maps, as I am in sales and some places are hard to navigate.
