-- thinmodem causes crash after removal (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11589)
it seems that 50% of the time when I remove the thinmodem and reinsert my 8mb Flash module my VDX freezes up and I need to soft reset. I usually exit from the thinmodem by exiting the application and going to the Launcher (Launcher III).
This is usually caused by the modem connection not being fully terminated.
To debug this problem, verify that your modem connection is fully terminated. This does *not* automatically happen when you leave an e-mail, etc. application -- you need to use the disconnect option in the particular application or go to Preferences->Network->Disconnect.
Also, it can take many seconds after initiating a disconnect before the OS's TCPIP stack, etc. is fully shut down. You will know a disconnect is complete when your unit begins responding again (cursor starts blinking, etc.).
An easy way we have found to disconnect and be notified when the disconnect is complete is by using the Power-Button disconnect.
This is accomplished by simply pressing the Visor's power button to initiate a disconnect. By nature, the Palm OS will disconnect when the Visor is asked to power-off. When disconnecting with this method, you will note that the Visor will *not* immediately turn off (because a disconnect is in progress). When the disconnect is complete, the Visor will complete powering down. This is a nice indication that the disconnect is complete, because you'll know it is when the screen turns off.
Give these hints a try, and if you still have a problem, give our support line a call (or an e-mail). That's what they're here for!
P.S. Another thing to check for is OS hacks. Some hacks like to hook into the OS COMM libraries, and can cause problems, too.

To expand on the hacks
I have had a problem with removing the Thincomm modem while my VDX is off. If I take the module out while the Visor is off, the Visor turns on and locks up. I traced it to the TrekSounds Hack (v3.4) and I contacted the developer about it. He is working on a fix. The work around? Turn on the Visor before removing it and all is good.
