-- VaporGear: the list (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5495)
Just for fun, I gathered some of the pre-PC Expo release dates (or more precisely, seasons) of our beloved springboards and compared them to their revised dates:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>SixPak: originally Summer; now Fall
<LI>Blue-Connect: allegedly "available"; due Q4/Q1
<LI>Pocket Webster Dictionary: originally Q2; now Q3
<LI>HandyGPS: originally April; now end of July
<LI>@ctiveLink 2-way pager: originally mid-July; now August
</UL>
Note that the "original" ship dates in most of the above springboards are themselves revisions of even earlier ship dates. My favorite is the HandyGPS. Here's a direct quote from VisorCentral's coverage of Internet World in October of last year: "Six months in development, the HandyGPS is almost ready to be released. It will be introduced during November, carrying a price tag of $139.99." Of course, the guy didn't say which year . . .
Well that Pocket Webster at PC Expo was by Franklin, not Landware, so it's a newly announced module and doesn't count. @ctiveLink was functional, so I don't think it'll slip any farther. HandyGPS? Your guess is as good as mine.
BTW, the Module listing should be updated with all the new/changed dates

Well the problem is that its all vaporware. They sell the sizzle and not the steak. If they were publicly traded companies, I think the should be investigated for fraud and stock manipulation.
I'm getting tired of all the fake stuff.

I considered doing a spoof web site for Springboard modules "under development", i.e. laser rangefinder/night vision module or megapixel camera with 1 meg expansion ram module. I wanted to use www.vaporware.com, but, alas, that name is already taken. I guess I could do an alternate, British developer, at www.vapourware.com, as that name isn't taken. It might be fun to post your favorite vaporgear, stuff you think is neat, but will never see the light of day.
Enjoy!
