-- Use Nokia 6110 as modem with Visor via IR (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2083)
How can I use my Nokia 6110 cellular phone as modem via the IR port ?
I've been informed that the IR port on all of the Nokia 61xx phones sold in North America are 'cosmetic only' (read: non-functional).
I'm in the process of tracking down a screwdriver small enough to pop open my 6160 to see if the hardware for the IR port is present, or not. If it is, I'm going to try connecting it and see what happens.
If I see any difference, I'll update here.
I've done some research on this and it seems that it's not possible (unless you use the TDK connection kit which uses a cable).
The IR port on the Nokia 6110 uses a non IRDA compliant form of IR communication.
The most interesting news I've seen so far is on the IS/Complete site :-
"Nokia 61xx/71xx Users
Although Nokia 61xx is IrDA compliant but not 100% and it doesn't have the "real" built-in modem. It is possible to overcome this problem by simply porting the "DataSuite for Windows 95/98/NT" to Palm, but it requires Nokia to release the 61xx specification to the developers."
Or you can go here :

I hope this helps,

I believe the Nokia site lists which specific models have IR. But the gist of it is that any Canadian/North American model does not. Dunno about Mexico, etc.
Since I live in The Netherlands, using an
European Nokia 6110 I could be of any help
because I'm using my 6110 with the Ir port
of my Compaq. So, I know for shure that
my 6110 has a IR port........
