TreoMail password issue

When I go to download Treomail as per the email recieved this morning from HS, it asks for my email address. It then discovers that I am registered with HS (because I bought a Treo!) and asks for my password on the HS system.
When I put that in it refuses it.
I checked and logged into HS Support Order tracking - the ID (email address) and password work.
They do not work when trying to access treomail account setup.

I called HS and they seem mildly at lunch - I pointed out that if I have this issue lots of others will too.

Anywone else?

I got as far as my password being accepted and then being asked to choose a security question. It looks like I can get farther than you. I don't want to install now, so I bailed out at this point.

TreoMail password issue

Thanks Jeff,

I tried again still no go. Passwaord is rejected.

I called HS and they said this is a big issue this morning. Said to try again in a couple of hours.

I will let you know what happens.

i had the same problem

i had the same password problem so i logged in with a different email address and set up a new account. im up and running with treo mail, however, i dont find it that much different than one touch mail (other than you can schedule mail delivery) as it still needs to dialup and retrieve/send mail. maybe ill grow to like it more as i use it (although, it is frustrating that it often takes multiple tries to establish an internet connection).

what happened to the promises of "always on" mail delivery ala the blackberry? I guess we need to wait for gprs functionality for this.

Treo Mail woes

I have kept trying to setup TreoMail. Still cannot download from HS because of password problem. same as KeepinOn.

HS says its not their issue - also that they will get back to me. Both seem to be incorrect.

I do not want to setup with a different email address as that would defeat the purpose in my case.

BUT I did read the FAQs - it appears that if you have Internet Mail (POP3) you have to set your POP3 account to leave the mail on the server. That could pose a big cleanup/quota problem.

If you don't leave the mail there then when you download mail to your desktop, you would not be able to independently download to your Treo - DUH!

Great advance - NOT.

TreoMail running

I got this running finally. First it was possible to download the application at last.

Then after installing it as per the instructions it did not work. By mistake I found the Account Management section of the TreoMail page at HS. There I discovered I was supposed to contonue the TreoMail setup! I did and it works. It seems to work better than One-Touch, although the functionality is similar. I use the Internet version.

Slightly off-topic I am very worried today about the continuing improvements which have been introduced by HS and which are unavailable to us early purchasers becuase the unit is not upgradable. This could grow into a very ugly situation unless HS at least provides cost-effective upgrade paths

Well, you're a step ahead of me; I'm using the Internet version, and Handspring solemnly assures me that it can't contact my POP3 mailer, despite the fact that One-Touch has no problem logging onto the same account. However, I have been successful at sending email through TreoMail.

My gut reaction is that their own servers just aren't working very well yet, and I also notice that the email password field on the Mail Account Management page is only eight characters long, while my actual password is 15.

Still, there's more stuff to fiddle with, and hope remains high.

Who say the unit is not upgradeable?

Upgradability

Please prove me wrong! I understand that the Treo does not have the ability to be upgraded - no flash memeory etc. It can have new software added to it, but the operating system is stuck at the level shipped. Please prove me wrong.

Arrow OS Cant

CrownPrince,

THe OS on the unit cannot be upgraded....but teh updates that youj are seeing in newer Treo models are not OS based. Therefore, your Treo should be easily upgraded to the latest firmware.

Yardie

Any idea when the upgrades currently being included in shipping Treos will be made available to us dopes who bought one the first day they came out??
If you have a link, please include it.
Thanks,
CP

The updates are presumably not OS based, but in the phone's flash. But nobody knows for sure.

Upgrades

I repeat. Are we being screwed? Brand new phone for some $600. Out come newer versions with a higher version of the software with new features. How are we to get it? Should we return our units which are still within the 30 days.

Evidence of being had

Note this from Marcus' article on CEBIT in this site:

"New 180 Software fixes bugs and improved battery life

A Handspring representative stated that the updated software some of our readers have noticed on the newer Treos contains over 40 bug fixes. The newer software also increases the standby time from 30 hours to over 110 hours by better power management.

In an earlier report we incorrectly reported that a flash upgrade was available from Handspring Tech Support for early Treo users. They sent us the following note commenting on the issue: "We do not have any available updater for Treo 180 at this time so folks who call with the expectation of getting a download or a replacement unit purely for standby time will be disappointed. It is true that standby time increases with the new build. Your article on CTIA conference this morning might encourage people to call us with this expectation when we have nothing to offer yet but are working on it."

Once Handspring has a solution available we will spread the word. To check if you have one of the revised Treo models or not, look for the following software:

Phonebook 3.5H4
CarrierExtension 1.5
Connection 3.5H
Digitizer 3.5H
GSM Library 1.2
LanugagePicker 1.0H2 (not in orig)"

My Treo has none of the above. How do you suppose I get it. Or have I been had?
