MEMPLUG users

Hello everyone. I just wanted to get some input on what it is everyone is using there MEMPLUG for? I want to make the most of this tool. I know alot of you have had it from the beginging and have dealt with much experimentation. Please provide us newer users some of your gained knowledge. I know this is a very general question but please provide any cool tips or ideas.

I have mostly games on my memplug(60+).

I put almost all of my programs on it with the exception of those that work with my eyemodule2 and Datebk4. I also use to store movies, pictures, and eBooks. Some of these eBooks are larger than 8MB such as my Movie Database. Finally, I use it to back up my Visor Platinum.

Weeeeelllll, I have 1.73MB of programs, 5.3MB for backup, and 12MB of greyscale videos on my 32MB card. I have just under 10MB left.

I have most of my programs, mark my scriptures for bible and also makes a nice doc reader from the card, plus I use plucker and have converted almost all department docs, procedures, etc to html and are stored on the card. I have about 20MB free on a 64MB card. Oh add to that all my splashphoto pics

HandBase databases
AutoCad files that I converted to Jpegs of my entire assembly line
Lots of pictures of my 15 month old daughter!

I'm saving up to get the Memory Stick Memplug when it comes out.

Pretty much the same: lots of games, Splash Photo albums and Noah Pro lite. But I also have a number of color videos converted from avi and mpeg using gmedia and *lots* of e-books and copied web magazine articles.

Whenever I see one I think I might read I download it. I've found that I've been reading a lot more "classics" that I otherwise wouldn't have read or wanted to spend the money for to get in a paperback.

I often find myself reading or dipping into several books at a time, but now I always have several books with me and can choose what I'm in the mood for reading when I'm stuck on a line at a store, bank or train. It's better (for me) than the public library, which I used to go to all the time. I really like the idea of being able to set bookmarks with notes. I put information about characters etc. so that I can easily refer back later to recall who they are or information about them (this is *especially* useful for 19th Century Russian novels with all the patronymics, and 19th Century English novels with large casts or keeping track of the difference between a baronet, a viscount, marchioness etc.)

Sorry, should have been more specific. I don't run the HandBase databases from Memplug (Causes fatal exception). I keep them on the Memplug and then move them when I need it.

Wish I could keep them all on card, but no can do!

My 64MB card holds quite a bit:
�weekly backup [4MB]
�full Noah dictionary [5MB]
�139 e-books [my library =), 42MB]
�Misc. apps/games -1.5MB]
�Local detail mapopolis map [500k]
�32 roms for PalmBoy [6.5MB]

That leaves about 4.5MB for new books and backup leeway, and gives me 4MB free on the Visor for temporary storage.

The most use I use the SM card for is books. I have stored on my 60MB card over 100 books. It is the most amazing thing to have your own library in your pocket; the vison of Arthur C. Clark.

The second use is movies I make or download. I use fireviewer. There is a trick though.
1) Download to Fireviewer app on Visor.
2) Copy to a folder on the memplug (mine is called Movies)
3) When your finished viewing on your RAM delete movie
NOT IN FIREWIEWER but in PiMover since deleting in Fireviewer
will not allow you to copy back to RAM and view since you
have erased it from the Fireviewer DataBase. As long as the
title is still on the Fireviewer Data Base (listed as a
movie on Fireviewer) you can view it.

Finally, the last major use I use Memplug for is map storage since their size is so large and you only need one at a time usually.

I've got games galore; if you don't already have it, get Launcher III from Benc software. It is a great adjunct to the memplug. The Memplug group forum is a wonderful resource. I now have 136 MB on my prism because of memplug.

question

Ok, this is probably a silly question, but I'll ask anyway;
With the Memplug ans SM card, can I install programs via hot synch directly to them without having to install them on my prism first, then moving them over?

Chucklique, You'll need a SM card reader, a device that plugs into your computer and accesses the SM card like a removable hard drive. You can find them at Amazon.com. Once you get one, you can drag and drop PRCs to the card like a normal drive.
