-- Handspring Modem Module-- VERY COOL! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5231)
I just got my modem from Handspring today.
After an hour consultation with my office's network administrator, I had successfully completed my first network hot synch. (A word to the wise, the instructions with the modem for setting up network synching are lacking. Be sure to check out the manual on the CD that came with the handheld for the necessary steps.) Given the very small size and weight of the modem, it will work very well to keep up on e-mail, appointments, and to-do lists while away from the office. My secretary can put new appointments and tasks on Outlook for me, and I can then access them while away. (I will also know immediately when someone's kids have junk to sell. Oh well, one can't expect it to screen out spam.
)
This clearly will be a major benefit to my productivity away from the office.
Now, forgetting about the practicle side-- does anyone know what uses the modem can be put to other than remote hot synching? I understand that with some third party software, you can actually surf the web. What software will let you do this? Is there any free software? I assume that it will only allow you to check specially formatted sites. What good ones are there?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I like proxiweb to surf the internet....i a mnot sure of the url but i am sure that if you go to www.palmgear.com and go to software thne interent it will have it
i have used proxiweb (www.proxinet.com) and it works pretty well. their mail program interfaces with the built-in mail function and works well also.
i believe that both programs are free.
sluggo
Some Palm web browsers I've used:
ProxiWeb:
https://www.proxinet.com/download/
AvantGo: http://avantgo.com/setup/index.html
pdQbrowser (part of pdQsuite): http://register.qualcomm.com/pdQsuite/download.html
Of the three, I like pdQbrowser the best, since it is fastest and doesn't require any proxies. However, because it doesn't use a proxy, it doesn't support graphics (proxinet and avantgo use proxies to reformat graphics and other objects in the HTML, while pdQ only sends the text) and also doesn't support SSL encryption (yet).
