I�ve always been a Palm user. I�ve gone through the III, V, IIIc and now have a Vx. The Visor Deluxe really appealed to me when it was released because of the springboard modules. Well, when they became available in retail stores I had to give one a try. I picked up a graphite deluxe Thursday from Comp USA.

Although I don�t think it will replace my Vx, the back-up module alone makes it an incredible device. I do a lot of traveling and have been on the road and had my Palm crash and thus been without all my vital data. Backing up to the back-up module is a breeze, and I feel very secure in the fact that if the Visor were to crash, I could restore everything without having access to my PC. The plastic case feels cheap to me, but that�s because I�ve gotten used to the sleek Vx aluminum body and the Visor is far lower in price than the Vx. The screen on the Vx is far easier to read but I prefer the softer writing feel that the Visor gives off, similar to that of the III series.

I got the unit Thursday night, and used it all evening, loading files etc. When I went to turn the unit on this morning it would not power up. This was a little disheartening. I removed the batteries, re-inserted them, and then did a soft re-set and the unit powered on ok. This happened twice more on Friday. After a call to Handsping tech. support, they suggested I exchange the unit because it was probably defective. I went back to CompUsa Saturday and got a new one. No problems yet. I hope this isn�t a frequent occurrence. Do I need to start carrying around a safety pin in my pocket?

I actually like the plastic cover which ships with the unit. I like the fact that it completely protects the screen. It is a pain to have to remove it completely and hold it aside while using the device, but I�m willing to sacrifice ease of use for better protection. And using regular batteries means one less thing I need to carry with me in my briefcase when I travel (mainly another charger.)

Next purchase is a PDA Panache Visor stylus and the modem springboard module.

I have not used the plastic cover since getting my EB Slipper, which I love, but I think that it will snap on the back so you do not have to hold it.

Man, you own a lot of palm PDAs. People on the board are generally PDA freaks, they buy the newest modules and the best cases and stylus and even buy a keyboard which in my opinion is useless and really doesn't care much about the cost. And then there are middle class people like me who can't afford anything beyond the visor.

I'm also a new visor owner. I had a hard time deciding which to purchase...no palm experience. I'm glad to see that you're happy with the Visor so far after ur Vx.

from your reply i learned about clipping the cover onto the back of the unit. thanks!

i just picked up my ice unit at Staples Friday night and am very pleased with it.
