Rechargeable batteries ???

Nimh batteries ?
Can the Platinum use rechargeable nimh batteries ? I was under the impression that that battery type was unsupported (like they are for my HP digital camera btw)

Yes, they are. You will need to use the ..7 to change the battery type to NiMH.

I use NiMH in my VPL with out a hitch. I switched when I got a compact flash adapter and started eating batteries to support my habit. The NiMH also work much better with my modem, as they are better at taking a large hit over a longer period of time when I am online. But when your Visor tells you to change batteries, I would highly recommend it, as the power level drops off very quickly when it does.

Yes, the Platinum can use NiMH; however, you'll need to set the Platinum to accept this type of battery by doing the following.

(1) Go to the Memo app and start a blank note
(2) Perform the following Graffiti stroke: .7
(3) Repeat (2) until you see [NiMH]
(4) At this point, you can delete the note

You're good to go.

Can the Visor Deluxe use NiMH?

You can use just NiMHs in just about every Visor (aside from the Prism, Pro and Edge which have their own rechargables built in). The Deluxe just doesn't have a NiMH setting, so it needs to be set to NiCad.

In short, yes. The only gotcha is that the VDX does not have NiMH as a battery type you can change to (see above). Most people recommend changing the battery type to NiCAD in it's place.

I have been using NiMH batteries in my VDeluxe for a few months now. I brought 2 sets of Radio Shack AAA NiMH batteries and a 'smart' charger for them.

I swap the batteries every day since NiMH thrives on keeping as fully charged as possible. This also minimizes the risk of being caught with decaying batteries- they pass from 1/2 charged to dead pretty quickly.

I used the " .7" to get to 'NiCad', and it seems to work fine- as long as you are pretty religious about never getting less than 1/2 full.

Thanks for all the great information.

Since we're on the topic, which brands of NiMH batteries do you recommend or don't recommend? (I know this is an old topic, but it's relevant here)

Anyone try the Eveready or Enegizer ones?
