Unhappy

Dammit Jim I'm a doctor not a Hanspring Tech.:-)

Hello All,

There I was after work waiting for the train to go home. As usuall I had my BVD in my hand and was reading a Doc.

As the train was rolling into the station my Visor went off. I have the Visor set to turn off after 45 sec of inactivity, but I didn't think it was 45 sec since i "turned" from the previous page. But I did try to turn it back on and nothing happened.:-(

While in the train, I took it out of the EB slipper to check the batteries. They were in the cover was still on.

When I got home I changed the batteries (even though that morning I was still at 60-70%. The new batteries didn't help.

Called Handspings 800 number. The 800 number said I should call a 716 (?) number for tech help, so I did. Apparently I picked the wrong option at the menu (I should of selected 1 instead of 2). He couldn't switch me over, so I had to call again.

So I called again, and reach someone else (BTW the phone was picked up pretty quickly). I ran through a couple of test: Taking batteries out, hitting reset several times, etc. After the test he were suprised that I didn't get anything on the screen after running the test. He thought I should at least have a blinking cursor. I din't but I did have the backlight on once after putting in the batteries.

So the guy decides I need a replacement, instead of taking my infor he gave me a case number and told me to call the 800 number aging to get it replaced. He said he could do it, but it would take time. I guess he wanted to save me phone charges.

I called the 800 and gave the guy the info, he said I should gt in in 3-7 days.

I asked him if this would be a refurbished unit, he said No that it was a box that was returned by ppl who returned the units with out using them. ?????

Over all, it was a pleasent exprience dealing with Handspring.

If you read this far, thanx.

When I get the Visor, what do I have to do to get the info that if on my PC onto the visor? Is as simple as just telling the destop software to over write the Visor?

You don't even need to do that. Just drop it in the cradle and Sync. HotSync will detect a hard reset Visor with no User ID and will automatically do a recovery sync.

If you had a password you need to reset it. That's all.

Lightbulb

I recommend performing a quick hard reset on the "new" refurbished visor before hotsyncing. [sidebar] BTW, a product returned to a manufacturer unopened cannot be resold as new. Weird huh? [/sidebar]

Then just place it in the cradle and select your old HotSync name from the list that pops up.

You may have to reload some of the programs as well, unless you used a program like backup-buddy. Once the load is complete you will probably have to perform as soft reset.

Not a big deal, but a time consuming process.

Good luck

Carl
