Question Prism Power Managment

Hi everyone

I've just bought a Visor Prism, and I must say it's fantastic! Already I'm making a lot more use of it than I did of my Psion 5Mx. However, I've come across something which the Psion DOES seem to be better for, and that's power managment. When I plug that unit into the mains, I can leave it switched on permanently, overriding the auto-off feature. This doesn't seem to work with the Visor - when I use the charger the Prism still turns off after the pre-set time limit. I'm using a travel-type charger by the way.

I'm planning on buying the HandyGPS navigation module with some European maps, but I have a question for anyone who is ualready using this. Does your Visor continue to turn itself off after 30 secs/1minute, etc, even with the module plugged in? I'm intending on using the system in the car, and I can't help thinking that is going to be a pain in the a** if you have to keep turning the Visor back on every few minutes. Surely the GPS module will lose its lock on the satellites if this happens?

If this is the case, does anyone know of a way to override the default Auto-off setting? I'll be powering the Visor from the cigarette lighter.

Hope someone can answer this for me!

Cheers

Jules

Don't know about the HandyGPS software, but either the Magellan software or Mapopolis has a stay on feature, mine's not here to find out. You could also try stay-on hack from Palmgear.

OnCradleOn

You can also use OnCradleOn to keep your Prism on while plugged in to a charger.

BTW, I'm not sure if the GPS units work like my VisorPhone does... but I would be surprised if they did not stay on independently of the Visor staying on.

Palm OS Shortcut

There is a dot shortcut to cut auto-off off.

It is .3

Go here for information on how the Palm OS uses dot shortcuts.

Excellent! Thanks everyone - I've downloaded OnCradleOn (although I've not tried it out yet) and will shortly be trying the developer short-cut too.
