-- upgrading internal memory (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10616)
Hey, everybody!
Anyone know of a way to upgrade the internal memory of a Visor? I've got the 2MB model and would rather take a chance at upgrading it myself than forking over mulla for a bigger Visor.
I've heard there's a company overseas that will modify certain versions of Visors if you ship them there. Any clues?

Yes
I have not personally used them, but take a look here:
http://www.stnecorp.com
I have used them and found their turnaround time to be less than a week. I have had no problemse since then (except now I need more memory!)

Thanks for the info!
Here's some more links I found:

http://www.interlog.com/~tcharron/Palm8M/Visor.html
Does anyone know if Visors can address more than 8MB of RAM? I read this excerpt regarding Palms from the interlog.com link above:
"The CPU has a built-in memory controller that is capable of managing up to 8M of memory."
I suppose that since the Visors are based on the Palms, that the memory architecture is also similar.

I could be wrong, but I read in another thread that the Motorola Dragonball CPU can handle 2GB! I don't know if this was ram or a springboard module. Either way I can't wait for that much memory!!
memory constraints
Well, the limiting factor in upgrading the memory is not the processor but the internal size of the memory parts. The RAM used in Palms and Visors is asynchronous dynamic RAM (DRAM). The largest DRAM I've seen is a 32MB in one chip.
In a design that requires more memory, usually engineers will simply add two or more DRAM chips to get more overall memory.
But from the pics at mikew.com, apparently the Visor has only one spot on its internal circuit board where the DRAM chips are soldered. Therefore, we're kind of limited to the DRAM size limit. If we're lucky, the Dragonball can address the larger 32MB DRAM part.

Sorry, 32MB is not possible

Ahh, thanks MPM. Wasn't familiar with the Dragonball EZ so question answered.
Well, at least we can go from 2MB to 8!
