-- How do I axe my hotmail account? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=16048)

Do I just leave it sit, or is there a way to axe it manually? It's too spammed, and it has a microsoft logo on it.

If you're bored, you can "email" me at [email protected]

I won't get it, though.

As I last recall, if you don't check your hotmail e-mail account in 30 days, it will destroy the account. I may be wrong though....

Hotmail accounts go "inactive" after 60 days and may be permanently deleted after 90. Read this FAQ.

from Hotmail Help:

Can I close my Hotmail account?

To close your Hotmail account, simply stop using it. If you don't sign-in
for 60 days (or within the first 10 days), your account becomes
inactive. At that time, messages in it are deleted and inbound mail will
be refused. Your Passport will still function, and your Hotmail e-mail
name will be reserved.
If your account stays inactive for over 90 days, it is permanently
deleted.

But have you tried "Inbox Protector"? It's supposed to stop a lot of the spam. Look for it next to where it says "Inbox 0 new" in the middle of the page.

I use this feature and must say I'm pretty happy with it.
It filters a lot of crap out of your inbox...

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Posted by Yorick on 06-14-2001 04:53 AM:

I gave up my Hotmail account earlier this month. All that ever comes into it is spam, as I have a different account for "real" email ... even using the filtering. I have an automatic remailer address I use for shopping, so I can direct it to any email address I want; the day I changed it away from Hotmail, my Hotmail inbox dried up.

I've found Yahoo's email service to be slightly better; I've rarely received spam at it and you get 6 MB of storage space vs. Hotmail's 2MB. Also, file attachments download more smoothly (your mileage may vary).

I agree. I have both a Hotmail and a Yahoo! account, but I use Yahoo! a lot more. I keep finding myself telling my friends who write me at Hotmail to write me at Yahoo!

I prefer Yahoo over hotmail for the same reasons. I had two yahoo accounts and can't get one of them to delete. Hotmail's procedure for deleting their accounts is easier. I've left my old yahoo account alone for over 6 months and it's still there... I guess I'll keep it after all and use it for clandestine purposes <eg>
