Broken Screen
Ok, so I feel stupid about this. The other day I dropped my Visor on the kitchen floor and broke the LCD screen. The glass digitizer remained intact, but the LCD underneath has very long crack, with most of the LCD leaking out.
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a new LCD screen cheaper than through Handspring. I have some electronic experience, but none of the tools (like a soldering iron) to mess with anything on the circuit board.
Is there someway I can get the parts cheap and do it myself, or should I just have Handspring take care of it?
Thanks.

Last time I checked, gethightech could provide replacement glass for Visors, but not the actual LCD itself. It's been a few weeks since I last checked them out though.
oh, ok, nevermind. i see they're supplying replacement screens now as well.
kool, only $75 too. they seem to be out of stock at the moment though...

I was just in the same boat. Here's my take on it.
Handspring offers what amounts to a trade-in. For $85 you get a replacement unit sent airmail. In my case I ordered around 6pm and it got to me the next morning at 11am (Kentucky to western Mass.)--that's nice turnaround.
For $75 from gethightech you get the whole replacement deal, but then have to do the work yourself, which invalidates whatever warrenty you have left. Even if yr warranty w/ Handspring has expired, the replacement unit itself has a 90 day warranty. Additionally, what is your time worth? That is to say, soldering, etc. How long does it take you for that $10? 15 minutes, 2 hours? And, do they charge shipping which cuts that $10 down.. and how long does it take them to ship it to you? What if you screw up?
For the extra $10 handspring is the clear winner in my book.
That's not to say that gethightech isn't cool and isn't doing a great service. Though I haven't tried them I think they are.
bagelche.
Actually I agree with bagelche. I've read the instructions from gethigh and I would rather pay the $10 to have a new unit the next day.
