OH NO! Not this again (runs for cover and hides)...a while back I started a debate with Terry Salmi about Dem. vs. Rep. (he's a Rep.) and subsequently posted a thread asking people whether they would vote Republican or Democrat if an election were held today...all I get was people praying on technicalities (They wanted to vote for other parties), people telling me I didn't have the power to ask such a question because I was Canadian and not a pure-bred American, and people who just plain questioned the legitimacy of the posting and called it a waste of time..

i think Democrats are trying to manipulate the judicial system in New Jersey in order to steal one of that states senate seats, and control the senate majority.

Before you go and spread misinformation, especially from the most biased of news organizations, Fox, make sure you get your facts straight.

I agree that just because the law doesn't outlaw something doesn't mean it's illegal, but someone has to have the authority to make the ruling. In this case, I'm not sure the court is it.

N.J.S.A. 19:13-20 In the event of a vacancy, howsoever caused, among candidates nominated at primaries, which vacancy shall occur not later than the 51st day before the general election, or in the event of inability to select a candidate because of a tie vote at such primary, a candidate shall be selected in the following manner: and then it goes on to list a whole mess of things, including the party nominating the new nominee

If the legislature wanted to allow for later substitutions why would it put the number in? Furthermore, I doubt the legality of the NJ court to decide this matter, filling in for law that was never written. From our good ol' Constitution, article 1, section 4:
The times, places and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by law make or alter such regulations, except as to the places of choosing Senators. (emphasis added, of course).

I'm not seeing how the courts have the power to force a name added to the ballot. Unless the NJ legislature has delegated the authority to the supreme court of NJ, the SCOTUS has no choice but to rule the SCONJ was beyond its constitutional boundaries in its recent decision.

CNN and MSNBC are liberally biased in my opinion; because they cater to people like the three senators (I can�t remember their names), in giving them a forum in which to bad-mouth the President. Even if the President were Gore and not Bush, it is the responsibility of senators or supports our President and not fornicate with people (Iraq) we are considering going to war against.

As for doing something the law doesn�t say, lol that�s been done so many times...such as�

1st amendment --- by the way, I have a challenge for the bored�.remember, the 1st amendment in its entirety�.

I am Republican because I am for a weaker national government, and against expensive social programs that do not work. I am Republican because they believe in the Military and actively support the Armed Forces of this Country. I am Republican because they are the only ones that are taking the Middle East as an actual issue, not a possible Legacy.

The ballots in New Jersey should NOT be destroyed and re-printed. Toricelli knew the laws of the State of New Jersey, and it was his choice to withdraw from the race this late. If this is able to happen, it will encourage parties to change their candidates just because the one they originally chose is not as strong as they would like.

The law is the LAW - no ifs, ands, or buts (unless, of course, your a democrat)

. Seriously, that comment wasn't neccesary, and if it was, you could have phrased it better. Now no one will really listen to you, because you seem pretty "biased". Also, people will read more of what you write if there's less (we're lazy).

What is the point of having Senators if they are going to agree with everything the President wants to do? The Senate and The House pf Reps are there to keep a check on the President -- not to offer a rubberstamp on his or her plans.

Neither. Because they're both intellectually bankrupt. At best they only filter down the positions of the more fringe parties when they think it'll gain them votes.

WRT Torricelli, I have mixed thoughts. I can't fathom his timing and wonder if he did it to spite his party, so I can't bring myself to feel much pity for them. OTOH, Jersey's election laws should take something like this into account. But maybe I'm biased by living in a state with flexible enough election laws to allow for moving voting due to hurricanes.

I have not missed ONE election in over 30 years, so I guess I'm a little older than 16. And I did take your anti-liberal gratuitous rant as a flame and an insult!! I just choose not to respond in kind because that would not accomplish anything.

As to your point that only Fox is fair and unbiased, I could just as easy state that only Fox is biased towards the radical right and is the only predjudiced "news" station on the air.
