Question Installation fatal errors

I just tried to install the Palm OS Eudora. The installation was unsuccessful last night (I found out after much digging that I couldn't install it from my Mac at home - had to be a Windows machine). So I brought my HotSync cradle to work and tried to install it from my Windows machine this morning (Win 2000). Still won't install.

I got 3 fatal errors and had to hard reset my Handspring after each one:

HwrRes.c,Line:174
Unknown rsrc type

then

DataMgr.c,Line:5304,
DmWrite Check failed

then

Memory MgrNew.c
Line:4183, Invalid Chunk.ptr

I also tried to delete all the Eudora files (listed at "unknown"), but my Handspring tells me it can't delete the files. So I tried to install Filz to change the Eudora file so they weren't protected, but it wouldn't install, either - more fatal error messages.

Everything else in the HotSync works - backups, etc.

The Handspring web site tells me nothing, and they want $20 minimum plus long distance charges for tech support. Eurdora and Palm are useless, too.

Anyone know what I can do?

Did you restore after the hard reset? If so, it's possible that some corrupt files are contained in your user backup directory.

No, I didn't restore.

Can you install other apps without getting the errors? It's possible that the Eudora files from the download are corrupt.

No. tried to install Filez with the same problem.

Sounds like it might be a corrupt conduit. Try re-installing the Desktop software and see if that helps.

uninstalled desktop software, including Eudora, then installed Palm desktop OS from Handspring. Wouldn't install the Filez.prc sitting in the install folder. I was hoping the Filez would help me delete the Eudora files on my handheld (OS says it can't delete). Here is the HotSync log:

In your earlier post you said you hadn't restored. If that's the case, after a hard reset, you should have nothing on the Visor except for the default apps and data. The entries for AOLLocationDB and AOLMailDB, along with the datebook messages, tell me that a restore did happen (or you didn't do a hard reset). I'm not sure what the messages:

System synchronization failed.
Protocol Error: Handheld file not found. (4003)

are being caused by, but they're probably related to an installed conduit not finding the appropriate file on the Visor. Can you list what conduits are installed in HotSync Manager?

Apparently, the hard reset didn't take the times I tried it before. I finally removed the batteries tonight and held the reset for about 45 seconds. That finally wiped it. I restored after I deleted all the Eudora files from my Mac desktop. Now everything works, except I don't have Eudora now. I need Eudora to get my Stanford mail authenticated, and I'm travelling Wednesday. Monday I'll uninstall all the handspring desktop applications on my Win 2000 machine and download the desktop again and try to install Eudora. All this would be simple if Eudora could be installed from my Mac!

Hopefully, this will work and you won't hear from me about this problem again!

Thanks so much for your help.
