This thread has gottem over 2000+ page views. What does that tell us? It is interesting that an earlier stat show 94% of Americans awant porn to be ban or somethign like that. my question would be this -- if 96% of americans want porn to be banned. Who are the people that are spending billions of dollars per year on these things? I doubt its just the 6% that say yay to porn.

I didn't look at the statistics that were listed earlier ("lies, damn lies and statistics") but it's likely 94 or 96 of POLLED Americans. What's true of a slice of the population isn't necessarily true of the whole of the population.
For example, elections are only representative of the wants/views of people who vote, not the whole population (or even those registered to vote). (I don't want to open another election debate; it's the only example my strained brain can concoct right this moment.)

Anyway, with the internet being near-global I expect some of that money is from outside the U.S.

Of course, that could simply because the older generation is so upset at how easy it is for the younger generation to get porn.

Dammit, when I was in Junior high I had to WORK at it to find a copy of some older brother's tatterd copy of hustler from 1986.

Kids have it sooo easy these days

Exactly. I couldn't find porn to save my life during Junior High. Happily, I found one nude picture in an art magazine that I cut out and kept in my wallet until I started dating a Bible thumper. I should've kept the picture instead.

"Lies, damn lies, & statistics." There is no way that 90+% of Americans want all forms of porn banned. Maybe child porn, which makes me wonder about the other 4%.

I used to have the following logo on my home website (which I currently have offline. It puts polling into perspective...

FWIW, M. Scott Peck, M.D. (to whom I've referred often enough before, I hope not ad infinitum) was interviewed in Playboy about 10 yrs. back (w/Stephanie Seymour on the cover?). As a hugely famous lay Christian theologian, just doing that interview in itself spoke volumes (ditto per all of his famous psych. books). But he also ans. the standard questions on porn: It's normal & natural to look at it.

Seriously though, as was said previously in this thread, it's really not the porn itself that's the problem. It's the people who end up with an unhealthy obsession or attitude towards it. It's only an industry because there's a demand.

It's also notable to consider the Christian belief along with that; that people are naturally evil, and therefore their normal and natural desires are evil. As a Christian theologian, his statement that it is normal and natural wouldn't have been in anyway justifying it; rather, it would have been condeming.

Question from a female perspective: Where do you (meaning you generally, not you, homer only) draw the line at what is "normal" and "natural"? Viewing porn daily? Viewing porn once a month? Never leaving your computer? What if your girlfriend/spouse doesn't like it? Too bad?

The earlier discussions about Dad's "dirty" magazines and even the Playboy interview seem (in my limited knowledge) not the same as the stuff that is available on the internet today...do we really need access to see some woman doing her dog?

Where is the line? (And everyone PLEASE understand that I am asking honestly and not trying to start up some Porn-For-Everyone vs. Porn-Haters flame war!)

I think viewing porn 'casually' is o.k. It shouldn't be a big deal, and if it is, it needs to be resolved.
'once a month' makes it sound like you think us guys have it marked on a calendar.

Never leaving the computer or doing anything for outrageous amouts of time is addiction. If not addiction then they just need to get out more..

It seems to me that for people who choose to look at porn, "normal and natural" would mean at least a few things:

1. It doesn't get in the way of your responsibilities to your family, job, or god (if you have one).
2. It doesn't impede relationships with people.
3. It doesn't make you feel guilty, dirty, etc.
4. By buying it, you don't support an organization/person that is harming people. (i.e. only safe, willing, well-paid, adult models)

As a bonus, if you choose to look at porn, "normal and natural" could include:
a. being fun ( duh )
b. enhancing sexual relationships
c. allowing you to cope with sexual feelings during periods of time when you can't be or choose not to be in a sexual relationship

How's that for a start, K?
