Just got email from CardAccess that they are now taking orders for their modems (http://www.cardaccess-inc.com/order.php3). Cost 119 and is said to be shipping on 6/13/00.

Whoopee... a whopping $10 less than the handspring modem. I was hoping it would be something a little more competitive than that. Other than the v.90 capability, why would I buy a 3rd party springboard that costs almost as much?

I know, I know... I've read all of the reasonable responses to the "Why are springboards so damn expensive" threads... and most of them make sense. It doesn't make it any less frustrating, though.

What do they mean by 'flash upgradeability'? Will they provide an application that will modify flash ROM on the module?

I think I'll wait until they have v.90 built-in...maybe by then Innogear will have released the six-pack, so we can compare the two.

I ordered one today. I was waiting for a Modem and this one looks like a good fit. I didn't really need all the functions of the 6 pack, and this is available now. (they say). I'll let you know what I think.

I have prodigy. Can this thing dial into prodigy? How am I charged? Do I have to pay a monthly subscription for wireless access?

If you are a prodigy claasic Mamber, I don't think you can connect with any PDA.

If you are a prodigy.net subscriber, you should be able to use it to connect with this or any other modem.

There shouldn't be any extra charge to connect this way, but check with prodigy.

I received an email from Palm Gear today (the 13th) saying they received my order which shipped (the 14th). How did they do that?

CardAccess has come through! They actually shipped their modem to me yesterday (the promise date) and I received it today.

What are they charging for shipping?

The modem comes bundled with Browse-It from Puma Technology. Browse-It seems to be functional enought, but I still haven't gotten over the "Gee-Whiz" aspect of actually browsing the web with the Visor. Honestly, I don't think I'm going to be making the Visor my primary surfing platform, but it is nice knowing I can look something up when I'm on the road.

You'll need an AOL Mail Client... Hand Mail was capable of accessing AOL, but I belive it's been discontinued. I don't know if MultiMail supports AOLs protocol or not.

I'm not familiar with WorldNet... is it AT&T's ISP? It should work with WorldNet, because MultiMail's website includes WorldNet in the list of ISPs with configuration info.
