-- MemPlug and FIND Crash (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13952)

Posted by GSR13 on 04-11-2001 01:13 PM:

Can anyone else confirm the following?

If I have the MemPlug inserted in my Prism and attempt to do a Find, I get a Fatal Error with the RESET icon. I hit it and once the reset is complete, all goes back to normal.

If I take the MemPlug out, the Find seems to work great.

Anyone else have this problem?

I can't reproduce that problem on mine. Using MemPlug with a Visor Prism, with the latest flashROM update to the Memplug.

Do you have a Visor Deluxe, or Prism/Platinum? It might be OS based.

I know that of the two responses received so far, no one else has this problem. I still do. Even after the latest Update this problem still exists. Several people over at VisorVillage have reported the same problem. I am wondering if anyone else can confirm this issue, considering there are probably more MemPlug owners out there?

Exclamation yep...

Yep. Got the same problem here. Well that just bites, now don't it?

Hopefully PI knows about the problem and will fix it.

No problems here.

I tried several combinations of factors:

hacks off, "find" from within an app which was not using memplug (i.e. I was in DateBk4 when I hit "find")

hacks off, hit "find" while I was using CSpotRun to read a file located on the memplug

hacks on, "find" from within DateBk4

hacks on, "find" from within CSpotRun

I think what would help Pi is if you send along the specifics of your Visor (make, model, os, memory (free vs used vs total), etc,,) as well as what software you might have installed, any hacks, overclocked the cpu?, etc.. directly to their support email address (don't have it off hand at the moment) This will help speed along a fix or solution for you..

FYI I don't have the find bug.. I have a Prism with OS 3.5. 1mb free memory. No hacks.

We have awared of this bug in some of Visor devices.
And it is caused by one of our 3rd party software.
And we have ask that 3rd party to fix it.
I think we can have a software update later to fix this problem.

In the meantime, some of our memplug-users suggestion that you can use hackmaster (or other similar program) with hackFind to ignore the Global Find to that application.

Sorry for any inconvinence. And thanks for point out that.

gMovie, their engineer has fixed the problem and release a beta to us already. We will release update for all memplug-users later.

PIDeveloper, any idea what causes GMovie to do this only on certain Visors? I am using a Visor Prism, 3MB Free, no hacks. Identical configuration to my old Prism which did not have this problem. The only difference between the two devices is my new Prism came with the HsExtensions 3.5.2v1.2 already installed. On my old Prism, I had to download the patch and install it. However, another user on Visor Village who has the Prism, installed the update himself, and still had the FIND problem.

Glad to here they have a fix and that you guys will be posting an update. I want Portable Innovation to know that I really appreciate your help in each problem. You guys have responded to both my emails that I have sent to you as well as monitoring our posts here and providing feedback. I will continue to recommend the MemPlug and your company. Thank you for excellent support and keeping the end-user involved.

Thank you for your recommendation.
Since the fixed is done by gMedia's engineers, PI just tested their beta and confirmed that they have fixed it.
I haven't studied the problem indepth. but this problem only appear in gMedia's application, they can fix it by skip the global find in their application.

I have my gmovie configured to run of the module, maybe that has something to do with why mine works? I'll experiment and try to make it fail.

I also have mine configured to run off the module. I tried changing that around to see if it would affect it, and no matter what I did I still got the error. I know that I could download HackMaster and FindHack and choose to exclude GMovie from the global FIND and it would prevent the Fatal Error. However, I really do not want to install Hacks nor am I willing to pay for additional software. I am content to sit and wait for the official update that addresses this problem.

I just wish I knew why it only happens on certain Visors.
