I screwed up but can't figure out how to undo my mistake. I was dowloanding a large quantity of GeoDiscovery maps for my Geode with Win98SE. I kept getting the standard message as to if I wanted to open each file or save it to the disk. I eventually got tired of chosing and clicked on the button to "not show this message again for this type of file". Unfortunately, I apparently hadn't clicked on "save file to disk" first, so now everytime I download a pdb file it automatically opens it and puts it in the Palm Installer. I don't wish to install every one of these files at the present time (there's no way they would fit anyway) and the only place I can find a copy of this files is in my Windows Temporary Internet Files director. Because of the vast volume of other files in that directory, it is unstable working in that directory to copy the files. I ran Norton WinDoctor and it didn't change anything. Someone suggested looking at my registry. I'm pretty dangerous trying something like that but didn't find anything there anyway. Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try this:

Run Windows Explorer. Click on Tools->Folder Options (or View->Folder Options).

When Folder Options is visible, click on the "File Types" tab. It should be the third and last tab. Wait a few seconds for the list of file types to appear. It may take more than a few secs if you have a lot of file type associations.

Once the "Registered File Types" appear, scroll down to the "Palm Database File" entry. If you highlight it (just click once), you should see the file type details showing it to have a PDB extension. If you do, then you're in the right neighborhood.

After highlighting the "Palm Database File" entry, click on "Edit" button. When the "Edit File Type" dialog box is shown, look at the lower 1/4 of the dialog box for the "Confirm open after download".

If you do not see a checkmark beside it, check it so there is a mark next to it. That's the only thing you should muck around with there. Then click on the OK button there and on the OK button on the file type screen.

Thanks!!! That took care of it. I sure wish Win98 Help covered this.
