-- synching problems after exchanging visors (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2130)
After my first Visor bit the dust, I received a new one within one week! However, I can no longer sync. I have reinstalled the Palm software, done a soft reset, edited my registry and removed the Intel USB controller. It still can't locate my computer. I have 2 thoughts:
1. Do I have to somehow rename myself because the computer thinks there is another handheld trying to use my name?
2. I have a USB connection, but in the HotSync setup, there are no USB options. Is this typical, or did I somehow get a serial version of HotSync?
Thanks for any help you can give me!
Sounds like a problem with the HotSync software. Are you running version 3.0.2H? It almost sounds like you have a Palm version of HotSync on your machine.
I saw in another thread that once you had edited the Registry the software had to be deleted and reinstalled. I don't think you could lose too much by doing that. If you've got data you're wanting to save to the new unit (likely, duh) you should be able to copy your Palm/<user>/* directory somewhere safe before deleting.
I also saw some threads around on the method for seeing if your USB port is being accessed by the cradle. But if there's no USB option showing in the HotSync menu, I doubt it's even trying.
Good luck!
Yes, I'm running 3.0.2H HotSync Manager. I have deleted and reinstalled the software, but to no avail. I just don't understand why I don't have the USB option. Do you think customer support could help? Did someone say there is an 800 number?
