Unhappy

My screen just cracked right through the center. Will I be able to get Handspring to send me a new one or will I have to go out and buy one? Any chance for an upgrade from handspring? Thanks

Pritam

If your Visor is still under warranty, you might get it replaced for free... contact them to find out. Otherwise, it's $85 for a Visor, Deluxe, or Platinum, or $100 for a Prism. As far as I know, Handspring will not allow you to upgrade to a different model.

Cracked screen not under warranty...

Unfortunately cracked screens (or other damage caused by "abuse" or "accident") are not covered under warranty. So it'll cost you $85 to have your VisorDx unit replaced.

Lightbulb Or another option....

For for those who buy a new PDA or have yet to buy one, purchase from CompUSA, Staples etc and get the extended warranty. Then if you crack the screen, and HS doesnt cover it (FixItGal is correct HS=$85 please!) you can get the extended warranty folks to pay for it.

I normally don't pay for an extended warranty as most are just padded profit to the reseller, however this time it paid off. When I bought my Blue VDx from Staples, I passed on the $25-60 warranty, then a month later cracked the screen (@@&^!!>?@)())*)!!!! to say the least. I then called Staples & got the extended warranty, then said I have a cracked screen..no prob and they replaced the unit on the spot. Changed from a Graphite to Ice Blue in the process. ~10 months later, dropped the VDx from waist level and luckily did not break the screen or case but apparently toasted the USB or motherboard as it no longer would hotsync on my notebook or peers. HS then covered this one. If the HS warranty was over, then the Staples extended would have covered it.

Oh BTW, the "cost" for the screen "saver" warranty was only $44. Cheaper than HS $85 charge and covers my fumble fingers for 3 yrs.

Replacement Parts

There are a couple of sites that sell used digitizers and screens. Cost is under $50.00 or so US. I've never used one, but having pulled my visor apart a number of times, it doesn't look like it would be too difficult to replace, just make sure you get a replacement that looks just like the one you have. The web sites generally have pictures of what styles of screen they have available.
