Question FlashPath Problem

Has anyone tried to use Flash Path with their MemPlug card. I tried to use mine and received an error message. I put in my card from my digital camera and it worked fine.

Has anyone else tried it had a problem?

The only problems I've faced with the FlashPath is when I tried copying files from an old, slow 386 onto the FlashPath+SmartMedia card. The files copied OK, but extra sectors were mysteriously allocated and left me with less memory free on the SmartMedia card than I should have had. Other than that, the FlashPath works fine.

Check your flashpath's batteries... That's why I avoided it and got a USB reader/writer..

Fatal Exception

I downloaded the update and during the running of the program on my Platinum, I received a FATAL EXCEPTION.

Did a reset and now when I put the card in the module, I get FATAL EXCEPTION.

Anyone else?

Can it be fixed?

I have the same problem on my Prism.

I had the same problem, wrote PI and got a quick response (given they are half way around the world!). Go to this link:

http://memplug.sjweb.net/MyUpdate.htm

Follow the directions there and you should get an operable Memplug again. Good Luck!

OK, somebody tell me what I am doing wrong.

I am trying to transfer files from my PC to the SmartMedia. There seems to be a maximum number of files I can put in the Root directory, about 30. After that, "file or directory could not be created".

So, I thought I would put them in a different directory. I already have \palm\programs\gmedia and ..\..\cspotrun set up, so I thought I would just drop them in \palm. No problem, except when I put the card in the MemPlug, the files aren't there. Put the card back in the reader, still not there. I am guessing from the available memory left, that they really are there, but can't be seen. I had the same results with \palm\programs. The ..\..\gmedia and ..\..\cspotrun seem to work fine, at least with GMovie and CSpotRun respectively (doh! FAT16 and 8.3 filenames, gotta get used to that again)

I don't know of any file limits, well not 30 max anyway, as far as Gmovie & Cspotrun, you have to place them in specific directories on the smartmedia card, or as you discovered, the applications wont see them..

\palm\programs\cspotrun
\palm\programs\gmedia

In fact, there is limitation on root directory of standard FAT file system of SmartMedia card. We recommand our users to manage their files under sub-directory that won't has this limitation.

To solve your problem, simply delete some of your files under root directory with card reader or PiMover, then transfer your files to sub-directory.
eg. \Palm\, \Palm\SMFiles or \Palm\Programs

Please refer to our FAQ about PiMover for details.
http://memplug.sjweb.net/faq.html#M6

Memplug support vFAT file system, which is extension of FAT that support long file name, no 8.3 limiation
The pop up menu of CSpotRun is in short file name, because I just simplify my port, maybe change it to long file name later

Yes, PiDeveloper, in all fairness the filename thing was just in CSpotRun, not in PiMover. That would be a good improvement, when you get time.....

I tried moving things to a different directory, \palm\, and that is when they disappeared. There were there as long as I had the card in the reader, but when I moved it to the MemPlug, they were gone. When I put the card back in the reader, still gone. I am only inferring from the "available memory" display that the files are still there. I put about 700K of DOC files in there.

Hi,

It is because your FAT table being filled up in the root directory.

I think you can make it work again, pls follow the following step:

1. Back up a copy of your SmartMedia card by your card reader. ( Open a folder on your PC/Mac, then upload all content of folder and files from your SM Card)
2. Quick Format your card in PiPrefs.
3. Create a sub-directory of \Palm\ on your card
4. Load your files to this sub-directory, or any sub-directory you want.
5. Remember to keep your file organized in sub-directory, which can speed up sorting and better organized your Palm's files
6. Everything should work again, if you still have any difficulty, feel free to send email to our support team.

PiMover

PiDeveloper, how about copy/move files between directories in SmartMedia without copying them into Visor memory?

Posted by Matthew Nichols on 04-06-2001 01:58 AM:

I'd also like to see a way to move things into subdirectories from the module app. Otherwise its been great.

A little update on that whole Lexmark problem I had before, I finally came to the conclussion it was crap and spent the extra bucks to get a SanDisk. Everything is fine now!

Another great thing was that the Lexmark required the card to be in the reader for Windows to detect a drive, SanDisk doesn't. Win2k required that everytime I pulled out the card that I go through some menus & eject it or it would give me error messages when I did so. The extra $20 for the SanDisk was worth it just for this feature.

If all you want to do is move Visor-side progs and DB's to subdirs on the SM card, then you can simply go to PiMover, switch to the "Card" view, pick the appropriate subdir, switch back to "Internal" view, then select and move the to-be-transferred prog's and DB's. They should end up in the appropriate subdir. Sorry, if I misunderstood what you were getting at.

PiDeveloper, as long as you're looking at things to put into the wishlist, how about letting CSpotRun read normal text files directly from the SmartMedia card like the axxPac version of CSpotRun can?

If it's not too presumptuous, its source code can be found here:
