Heh. Someone who recognizes me from the good old Amiga days, eh? Alas, I sold my last Amiga back in '96, after moving to California and not having room for 2 computers in my tiny apartment. However, I still play around with Amiga software quite a bit on UAE.

Problem with doing an Amiga emulation on a Palm/Handspring unit would be speed (the process is essentially equivalent to a 16MHz 68020, which doesn't leave much overhead for emulating stuff) and more crucial, screen resolution.

Still, it is pretty slick to carry something in the palm of my hand which has double the speed and 16x the memory of my first Amiga. :-)

Of course, the big difference here is that the Palm OS owns this market -- it's not the underdog. (At least, not yet... MS hates to be #2, and I'm sure they'll attack the CE market with a vengeance to try to undercut Palm. Remember when they said nobody would switch to Internet Explorer when Netscape was out there?)

This entire thread is silly, in my eyes. I am 23 years old, and work part time in a shop that sells video games. You might be surprised to find out that a large part of our customer base is in the above 18 years old bracket. And yes I have a few games on my Palm (And yes I will move them to my Visor when it arrives) but I also do my email, my banking, keep track of appointments, my billing for my other job,... everything, I couldnt live with out it. (least not in a semi-organized fashion )
In my opnion (And yes, I am sure I am going to get flamed on this one by a few fronts, but it is *my* opnion) its the Palm V that was made for a "target audience". It has to be the stupidest PDA I have seen (Yes I know it has its strong points, like the screen) It costs entirely too much for what you get. But that is not my main gripe with it. I believe it was created for "Yuppies" who thought it was cool. Its main selling point was its "slick" look. The only problem was the "slick" look changed the form factor, making all of the Palm accessories incompatible with it.

I don't know about that(the V). I think that the size is the key reason why the V is selling so well. If you don't carry your PDA you'll never use it!

you got it! I'd probably still be getting a visor until I saw the Palm V.
It is so small that It made my palm III seem painful to carry and made my palmIII look like a bar of soap!

Like you said, it you dont have it with you you wont use it.
So until something comes out flatter than it, Palm V is it!

The palmV cost a lot because of its strongest point: its ease to carry in ones pocket. The same reason cell phones that are smaller, laptops that are thinner, are the most expensive. Because it becomes really USEFUL when you can carry it around with ease.
You say its the stupidest thing. I guess you Know more than the executives and lawyers and doctors and professors that the palm V is targeted to.
If you got the brains to make it in the professional world, Palm believes you'll want the best(meaning ease of use/carry) out there.

Hey, when is the Zork springboard coming out? That would be fun with Grafiti.

I'm new to the Palm platform, and all that I have as a semi-comparible device is the HP 48 GX. It's the most powerful calculator out there that I know of, expandable, and all that. (And it made getting through Thermodynamics a lot easier). However, there's tons of games out for it too (joust, asteroids, pacman, and zillions of others). Granted that it's main target is the 18-22 y/o engineering student. But a toy? nope. It could be a PDA with some software written for it (granted it's a little big).

I'm not sure what a 14 year old would do with a visor. I would hope learn how to program it.

I'm 27, and have a blue visor deluxe (hopefully) on the way. I'm listening to the muzak now on the speakerphone.

Someone mentioned in another topic that you can get most of the Infocom text adventures for like $16. There's an interpreter available for the palm, so you should be able to play Zork to your heart's content.

people over 18 aren't the only ones with jobs

I think that a lot of people my age have lots to organize. I feel that some of you people think that all teenagers are good for is keeping the gaming industry wealthy, but you are wrong because one day we will be the ones developing things such as the visor and other things.

I just turned 17 and i am a junior in high school. My visor deluxe will be paid with MY credit card (not my parents), and I promise you, a game springboard will never show up on my bill.

Thankful - What's your deal? It almost sounds like you own a Palm V and took Handspring's comments personally. He did, after all, state that it was *HIS OPINION.* He didn't state it as *KNOWLEDGE* so it is illogical for you to talk about the vast knowledge of all of the doctors, lawyers, etc., and use that as an argument against his statement. Besides, thier knowledge is very specialized - and the specialty is not in computers, unlike Handsprings. If you look at his profile, you'll notice that he's an MIS manager, which does require a certain amount of brains and knowledge - computer specific knowledge. Even though he was just stating an opinion, I'll trust his opinion more when he's talking about PDA's than I would trust a doctor's. But if I want to get an opinion on my headaches or something like that, I'll ask a doctor.

Anyway, how about letting people state *OPINIONS* without getting your feathers all ruffled up and attacking those people. He wasn't, after all, attacking anyone.

I am closing this thread because it is turning into people attacking each other for what they do. This thread was started by someone trying to get people to fight about whether the Visor is for teens or not, and it looks like it succeeded.

For those of you discussing what games you would like to see on the Visor, please start a new thread for it.
