-- Hotsync with two Outlooks (one with MS Exchange) (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2877)
Hi
Here is a question for those of you who are hot-syncing with two Outlooks (eg. work and home). We use MS Exchange at work so all my work mail gets delivered in my Exchange mailbox. The problem that I am having is that Visor always tries to sync with the mailbox set of folders (inbox, tasks, notes, etc) rather than with Personal Folders which I set up in hope of using them for this purpose. I would like to know if there is a way to force the hotsync to point to Personal Folders rather than the Exchange mailbox. Thanks for your help.
Alexander
Alexander,
With the default PocketMirror conduits, you cannot change the default folders that it syncs with.
An alternative is to use Puma's IntelliSync, its more robust and will allow you specify which folders to sync with for each PC (work/home).
Hope that answers your question.

Hmmm... On my Outlook 2000 configuration at work, my PalmOS units sync with my Personal Folders and not the mailbox on the Exchange server.
However, I had my profile configured to include the Personal Folders services before I installed PocketMirror (and also had the service configured to "download" messages from the Exchange server to my Personal Folder, ala POP3 while connected to the network).
FWIW and YMMV.

PZ,
Good point. I didn't think about the conduits working that way. I guess they lock onto the first mailbox they can find.
However, I think the idea was to use folders other than the normal (Inbox/Calendar/Notes/Todo) to send/receive information between the Visor/Outlook. You still can't change the default folders which the Pocket conduit syncs with.

Thanks for your replies. Since my original post I realized that PocketMirror synchronizes with whatever service is set to receive mail. In an Exchange Mailbox/Personal Folders environment such as mine all you have to do is go to Tools/Services/Delivery and select Personal Folders in the "Deliver new mail to the following location:" combo. PocketMirror will then sync with the Inbox under Personal Folders and this is exactly what I was trying to achieve. I also set up multiple Rules to allow me to store work related messages on the exchange server (for backup purposes). So the "flow" of things looks as follows:
1. All messages (business and personal) delivered to Personal Folders/Inbox
2. Business messages are then filtered and a copy of each is moved to a folder on the Exchange server
3. Personal mail is categorized and left in Personal Folders
4. All contacts, tasks, notes and journal entries (both personal and work) are also in Personal Folders. I am not concerned about data loss here as there is basically triple protection: work machine, Visor and home machine.
The above approach works great except for one thing - it's a pain to keep the inbox in sync. This is especially true if you are not receiving both work and personal messages at both locations (eg. when you get home your work messages are not in your home Outlook so hotsyncing wipes them from Visor thinking that you deleted them). But I think I may be asking too much here :-). It seems to work great for everything else though. If you've figured out a better approach to the whole thing I would love you hear from you.

afilep, can something similar be done when using Outlook Express? I want to sync with my hotmail inbox, not my Local Folders inbox, but there is no way to execute the switch. The only option seems to be to drag the emails from one box to the other in order to sync. Do you know a way around this?

Unfortunately, the message rules in Outlook Express 5.0x does not include the Hotmail account as part of its rules engine.
(If it was available to their rules engine, you would use the "Where the message is from the specified account" and choose the Hotmail account)
As I hear it from MS, it's "working as designed". I'd add: Working as _poorly_ designed.
