Hi Folks:

The subject about says it all.

I'm hoping that they make it.

Anyone else's thoughts?

Considering the date is set for June 27 (to coincide with PCExpo), I'd say the chances aren't too great of them shipping in May.

But will they meet their May deadline to have the order form on their web site?

Well there's something on their site that looked like a preorder form. But no more information that I could find and I don't really see how it's much different from the form they used to have...

Looks like they met their Pre-Order Form deadline of end of May. Their website seems to have a new "form" under "Ship and Order Information".

What exactly does this mean? I have no idea, but hopefully, it's a step in the right direction with getting their HandyGPS out by the end of June.

I've seen too many people pass out holding their breathes since the beginning of the year, so until it ships in June, keep breathing!

Thumbs down

a form is not the same thing as a product! ;')

I tired to place a pre-order today and the form barfs with script and ole errors.

Sent them an email.

The GeoDiscovery web site seems to suggest that they are shipping June 21...

I just tried the form again and it works fine with me. Checked my info and it came back ok. Hopefully they are sticking to their words this time and actually have a product out by the end of June.

As for GeoDisc, June 21st is when they make their product announcement. I don't think they'll have a product ready to deliver until late summer.

Either way, I just like to have choices and competition is good. Just don't know how much longer I can wait....

Nathan:

Thanks for the update, I will try again. Maybe I ran into a down server when I tried it.

Na, It still is not working for me, this is the error I get:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e07'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.

/products/handy/preorder_rst.asp, line 39

Exclamation

Mike, et al . . .

I went to Navicom's site this morning to double-check my pre-registration and the form changed quite a bit with some new fields. In fact, they had my country marked as "Afghanistan" instead of USA! (I'm glad I checked and recommend everyone do the same.)

I also noticed that the form doesn't like apostrophes, dashes or commas - and would get similar OLE errors like Mike when I used them. (My last name has an apostrophe in it - I had to take it out.)

I'm still not sure if I really, really want to order from this company. Our "warning bells" should be going off all over the place - let the buyer beware!

I also went back and checked. Some things were wrong and I changed them and the form said that they had been successfully modified. However, when I checked again none of my modifications had been saved. I did it a couple of times with the same results. The form says the changes had been modified but when viewed again none of the changes had taken affect. I'm hoping that the actual update to their database is a nightly batch process. I'll know tomorrow or so.

So far Navicom is staying true to form .

Thanks for the tip on the form changing! I fixed mine and also noticed the FAQ claims they are shipping starting on June 10. Yeah right.
