-- Voice recognition (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1341)
I've seen posts here and there about voice recognition, and read about it occasionally in the news. Seems to be the future. I agree, but I was just thinking about the noise. Can you imagine sitting in a library with everyone attempting to look up a phone number or check their email? Or on the subway minding your own business while the guy next to you dictates notes for his first meeting of the morning? Or sitting in a class while the guy behind you takes notes by talking?
And what about privacy, as you voice the names in your little (electronic) black book to make phone calls or set up meetings? I'm all for the cool factor, but will it be productive on a handheld like the Visor? (had to be sure to address the "General Visor" topic...)

I think it's a matter of using the tool appropriately. I can imagine sitting in a subway while someone dictates notes for his meeting -- heck, it's no different from his using a cel phone. I don't think it would be appropriate to use it to talk notes during a lecture, and I can't imagine a lecturer being silly enough to allow it.

The only serious reason I can think of is that you'd need the right to record the lecture...actually, this is an interesting question. If recording devices can be banned from certain types of public performance, might a device that converted spoken words to text also be banned?
this goes on to help concrete my theory. with all the cellphones/PDA's/whatevers using voice recognition in the future...
we are going to be living in a very LOUD world where people are walking around constantly talking!! can you imagine sitting on an airplane where everybody is talking quietly to themselves (PDA's)????
