-- Advice about ice (or any of the Visors) (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=819)
I am crazy about my ice Visor. BUT, I have one question. One the very top front of the casing, between the Handspring logo and Visor logo...right in the middle...I can't tell if my plastic is marred or if that's the way it's supposed to be.
Right in the middle if you look closely, you'll see a circle in the plastic. That seems right.
But the top half of the circle is white. And seems like something is wrong with the plastic. It's this white upper half of the circle. And I think the whole front top of the Visor is supposed to be clear and smooth. I find this annoying if it is marred. And what can I do about it?
Will they send me a new one and let me keep this until they send me mine.
I sure don't want to mail it back and then wait for them to send me a new one. Not after waiting a month for it as I already have.
By the way, aside from this, I think the Visor is awesome. I LOVE IT.
Anybody have the same type markings on your Visor?
Thanks.
Rich
I have an orange Visor Deluxe, and can see through the top to what appears to be something of a light color in the internal workings that sticks out just about an eighth of an inch above the screen, making the top part of the plastic circle appear lighter than the bottom half (which is above the dark edge of the screen).
Oh my word! You guys are griping about a circle that as you say "If you look close" you can see? Sheesh guys! At least wait till we all get them so we can help you complain about the little circles.

Now that you mention it I do see a white-ish half-moon shape at the top of my ice visor, but it sure isn't bothersome to me. Hadn't noticed it 'til now.

damn it, now I need to return my visor
I think that's an interior design thingy to hold the screen in place.
I'm w/ Knolen.
It's structural, and not limitted to ice.
Hey, form follows function. It's a beautiful half-moon shape.
Much more sightly than a loose screen.

everyman,
Sorry for this purposeful off-topic post, But I have no other way to try to get a message to you.
You were kind enough to post a reply in the "Visor Received Log", but you forgot to include your City and State. Could you please edit your post (it's on page 1) and include any missing info?
Thanks.
Dave
everyman,
the mark you see is made from the manufacturing of the case. if you notice there are 'circles' in a couple of places.
When they injection mold the case, the opening where the plastic flows through into the mold is called a gate. Depending on the size and shape of the item being molded there may be just one, or as many as ten gates on it to allow even filling in the mold without distortion or burning of the material. (Being clear plastic, more gates are required than on say, graphite) I too have an IVD and see that mark and agree (only because I do some work in this area) that they could've done a better job with both the size and placement of the gate.
Its unfortunate that they did not think of this with the translucent cases, but I'm sure they prototyped with the graphite case, which makes the gate marks irrelevant.
Hope this eases your distraction.
Oh, great, thanks! Now I can't keep from being distracted by the manufacturing process! When will this nightmare of petty distractions end??!
I have the marks too on my green Visor Deluxe. I agree with L3 that they are either gates or push out pins.
I'm leaning towards them being push out pins, because I can see 3 of them equally spaced along the top of that surface, and they are quite large. (After the part is molded, pins push the part out of the mold.)
Mine is green, so I can't see as clearly as the folks with clear ones. But if you look at the clear springboard blank, or whatever you want to call it, that slides into the springboard module area, you can see 4 push out marks in each corner. The gate can be seen on the bottom edge, (the edge that slides into the Visor), directly in the middle of the blank. It looks like a spec, (very small). This is where the plastic flowed into the mold.
Please let's not hear any more about folks sending them back! This is how things are made. I'm just glad that they come in colors.
