-- Syncing (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2255)
I had trouble syncing last night and immediately my heart stopped. Could it be that I was experiencing my first real problem with my Visor???
Here's what happened:
- placed Visor in cradle
- pressed HotSync button
- Visor shows HotSync screen
- nothing happens; HotSync times out on Visor
- retry above steps; same results
- retry again; MarkEagle goes into cardiac arrest
At this point I'm saying to myself "self... looks like we got us a problem here...". Then something made me check my free resources on the PC. I hade about 6 apps running and was at 62% free resources. So I closed all the apps except for my browser and hit the HotSync button again... Viola!!! another succesful HotSync.
Just to be scientific, I re-tried this again tonight. Same results. Definitely soething to do with Windows being greedy and not letting HotSync play. This I would say is NOT a Visor problem. "Oh, Mr. Gates..."
The moral of this story: if those of you experiencing syncing problems have many apps running on the PC, try closing some or all of them and see if this helps.

There may be something else at work that would account for random failures to HotSync.
I read this somewhere in this forum, I think, and I did experiment this morning and confirmed the problem.
Even though the Visor is properly seated in the cradle, there may be insufficient weight to properly engage the contacts on the cradle. I verified this when I had a failure as you described it and I pressed down on the top of the Visor to push the contacts more firmly together. The Visor started synching! Of course, I got the error stating that Hot Sync had been interrupted, but then the next time, Hot Sync worked OK.
So, there MAY be a design flaw with the Visor system afterall.
When you press down on the Visor, there is definitely some movement you can feel. I thought the little slot-and-tab arrangement was supposed to secure the Visor in the proper position, but it looks like it doesn't always.
Hope this helps.
I tried the "push-down-to-make-sure-it's-seated" thing, too. In my case it didn't help. I'm convinced it was Windows not being able to load HotSync due to low system resources.
I'm going to try this again tonight to see if it can be duplicated.
