has anyone heard of any programs capable of synching with the visor through the linux OS. kernel 2.3 has limited USB support, and 2.4 (due out next month) is rumored to have full USB compatibility. with that being known, i wonder if there will be any visor-compatible software. kpilot and pilot-link are already available for the pilot...it's gonna be a pain having to boot windows to perform synchs!

Well, you could buy the serial cradle. But being a Linux user myself, I know that I don't want to spend the extra money for something I'm only going to use for a little while, until the pilot tools for Linux support USB directly.

I've seen some messages on the pilot-unix mailing list, asking about USB support for the Visor, but no responses. I think two things have to happen: first of all, to get more Visors into people's hands, and secondly, for the Linux 2.4 kernel (which has full USB support) to be officially released.

There are a couple of programs for GNOME that do syncing. Check freshmeat.net for the names since I have a terrible memory and can't give you the details. They're out there though.

I'm another (almost) Visor owner who wants Linux support, I hate to have to reboot to Windows just to sync.

After watching how quickly the Linux community implements things, I doubt there will be any lag at all between when Linux support USB and USB syncing is added to the current apps.

Pretty much every UNIX synching application I have seen (Gnome, KDE, [the Python stuff]) all used pilot-link. I think this is were we need to focus our energies.

In thinking about it though, wouldn't it be a matter of just pointing pilot-link at another device (/dev/usb)? With the proper kernel of course. I have no idea.
