-- How to get some cool FREE stuff (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12530)

Posted by BobbyMike on 03-04-2001 04:55 AM:

here's the deal. Go to www.nissandriven.com . Go to the Xterra section and the Pathfinder section (do not go to the "request a brochure" section). Once there you will notice a button saying " click here for free gift/ test drive. You will be able to print out a coupon for a freebie. You have to go to a Nissan dealer and "test drive" a Xterra or a Pathfinder. If you tell them you just want to validate your coupon they will most likely do so without you having to go out. You need to get the dealer code and a business card from a certified Nissan salesperson.
The gift for the Xterra is either; a Kelty Blanca 2000 daypack, or a pair of Cobra Microtalk two-way radios (your choice).
The gift for the Pathfinder is either; a very nice 4 place picnic set (w/ cheese board, knife, corkscrew, wineglasses, etc.) or a Swiss Army watch (again, your choice)
Caveats; don't try to redeem two at the same dealership, and use different e-mail addresses (that's how they track you redeemers).
These are not cheapie gifts- the pack retails for $100 and the radios for $89.95.
The offer is good 'til the end of the month.
(I sell Nissans, which is how I know about this offer. I won't tell you where so you don't think this is a lame attempt to get a sale from you!)
If you request a brochure on a Sentra you may get a test drive coupon good for an Ogio messenger bag.
Have fun!
(Nissan marketing has already spent money on these items, so don't feel bad if you don't buy a car!)

While I do belive your honest intentions, as an FYI, I don't think it would be too hard to figure out where you work as you state your from Austerlitz, NY (under the picture, Location:).. Wouldn't be too hard to find all the local Nissan dealerships in that area.. (fyi - not to condemn or blame anyone , for safety and privacy sake, folks should really keep personal information off the internet, or make it vague at best)

(I could be wrong in your case, and I hope that you don't work near your location... too many sicko's out there)

Actually there are no Nissan dealerships near me. I have to drive quite a bit to get to work (and I drive pretty fast). There's about 15 dealers within the same distance from me. If you want to try to narrow it, go for it! I think it would take you about $200 in gas to drive around to each dealer. On bike it would take about 2 weeks. Have fun!
Miradu- do you have parents? Wash the dishes after dinner and while your parents are standing there dumbfounded, ask 'em to do you a favor. (I'm gauging your parents response on what my parents would have done) The coupons expire April 2nd, 2001.

This is so cool. Thanks! I don't even need to feel guilty - I used to own and love a Pathfinder, traded it in for my wife's minivan (groan) after we had our second kid. I'm now driving her hand-me-down Camry, and I'm probably going to replace it with another Pathfinder in a year or so.

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Ha Ha Ha. It took me a minute or two. I didn't realize April Fools day was a worldwide holiday. I thought we Americans were the only ones around with a sense of humor!

There are plenty of other crocs up north, but here in Sydney we only have the nice snakes and spiders..

No fair! I will be buying an Xterra within the year and have test driven twice. But the nearest dealership is at least 500 miles away (two commercial flights or three days on a ferry). Bummer. I guess if I went to four different dealers and got all the freebies it might almost make it worth the $400 tickets to get off of this rock. Bummer.

Technically I could do it in a few minutes on the internet (no driving necessary), but I'll leave that for someone else..

good to know I was not right about your proximity...

Really? Do you happen to know where I can get technical information on a 96 SE Kingcab, then? None of the Chilton-type manuals seem to have any info (they cover up to '96, but from everything I've been able to gather, my truck seems more like a '97 and _no_one_ seems to have stuff for the '97s).

Posted by BobbyMike on 06-27-2001 04:02 PM:

What do you need to know? Are you looking for engine specs, what? Or you just want to be able to delve deeper into specs without a specific need right now?

BTW, I have a '93 SE KC 4x4.

Give me an idea and I'll check with my tech guys on what your options are. Maybe I can scare up some kind of manual.

Well, ultimately, I want to have a reference to be able to do most of the minor work myself. This truck is the first vehicle I've owned where I couldn't. The immediate issue that sparked it, though, is the headlight idiot chime having gone out. The local dealership wants me to bring it in of course, but I'm leery of taking a vehicle in for a part that wouldn't seem to cost that much (how much can a chime cost anyway - $10? $25 at the most?) when there are no other operational issues pointing to a bigger systemic problem (no burnt fuses, nothing else malfunctioning, etc.), and labor to 'check it out' usually isn't cheap.

Are you looking for engine specs, what?

Electrical systems would be the immediate need. None of the diagrams I've seen of the fuse panel for the '96 have any correlation to the fuse panel in mine, so I didn't bother delving further into their wiring diagrams.

Or you just want to be able to delve deeper into specs without a specific need right now?

In the future, that would definitely be a plus. I've just been reluctant to buy a $100-125 service manual for a chime.

Good luck. I've had a hell of a time with the local dealership on that front. They claim that there were at least three or four production changes just for the hood during that model year (this came about when I was trying to find a bug shield for the hood), so who knows what all might be available.

BobbyMike, I can tell that youre on the up n up from your posts and I could use your help. I've had some flooding problems earlier this month and need to buy a new car. I am looking for an economy car for <$15K. One of my cars that were flooded was my 90 Sentra that has just less than 150K miles. I hope to get it in working order and have it see its 200K milestone, but who knows. It's not a pretty car (it has survived three hail storms) but it ran like a top before the flood. I would consider a new Sentra, but it's hard to pay almost two and half times as much as my original car ( $6K in 1990 ).

Do you know of any good deals out there?
How about financing? Anyone offering <5% ?

Any recommendations you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well, you could probably get a new Sentra GXE w/ conveniance pkg.(5.9% until July 2nd, might be extended) and pay around $13,500. This is a nice car- much improved over your '90 (which is a rock solid little car). The 01' Altima GXE with the Limited Ed. package can be got for @ $15,500 (that's taking the $2000 rebate instead of the financing). You'll save on both if you take a 5 Speed.

Your competing cars are the Civic (good mpg, so-so performance, timing belt instead of chain), and the Corolla (more $ for same features as others in class).

I am definatly biased towards Nissans. I have a '95 Pathfinder with 80,000 miles and a '93 SE 4X4 KC pickup with over 115,000 miles and they both run great. I'm looking for a '90-'94 Maxima, or a '96 240SX for a commuter car(90+ miles a day) right now to add to my fleet.

"I would consider a new Sentra, but it's hard to pay almost two and half times as much as my original car ( $6K in 1990 )."

If you consider that prices usually double every ten years, you're not looking at that much of a difference, esp. if you consider the Sentra I quoted has power doors/windows, AC, AM/FM/CD, and remote keyless entry.

Quality of the domestic car in that price range would disappoint you, I'm afraid.

I'm not to keen on Daewoos, Hyundais, or Kias. Their seemingly a lot of car for the money, but their resale value is, frankly speaking, for p p!

Michael

Thanks for the inside tips, Mike. Do you have any opinions on Saturns? I notice that they are running .9% financing until 7/5. That would save me 5% which would be really nice.

Although the new Sentra's do look nice. I am definately going to have to test drive one.
