-- Module I'd like to see... (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13560)
With all the advances in phones & such, I'd really like to see a SB module that can connect (via cable of course) to one of the many "web-enabled" phones. I really don't need two cell phones (and two accounts, and two phone numbers, etc.), and I'd like to take advantage of the bigger screen on my VDX to email & surf the web.
What I'd like to see in the module is flash-upgradeable browsers & email programs. I'd also like to see a memory slot so I can insert a memory card to store my email messages & saved HTML pages without using my VDX's memory. There would have to be a removeable cable to connect to the cell phone, of course. This is where things would get sticky- too many phones would mean too many connectors.
As I understand it, with such a module installed, I could then use my Go!Type keyboard to type my emails & such while surfing the web.
Is there such a product? If so, please point me in their direction.
Thanks!

You can do most of this already...
This was my thought as I read your post. If you have a phone with a IrDA port, you can connect to the net or if your phone does not have an IrDA (Such as startac) then you can buy cable for $30 that will connect the phone to the visor
But your requirement of using the gotype would cause a problem with a Non-IrDA equipped phone.
Then I thought of the obvious answer - the visor phone. And shortly, the visor phone will be joined by at least 1 non-GSM phone module. But, then you don't have a memory card option.
I have a feeling the module you describe - essentially an enhanced memplug or cf module/combined with a thinmodem will never be brought into existance. it just doesnt seem to be the way people are going.
Well, to kind of close off this topic, I *did* find a module that may do some of what I want.
Xircom has a Wireless module that connects to GSM phones. I emailed them some questions. If any of you out there have one of these modules, I'd like to know what you think.
I will look around here to see if I can find something, but at least I now have hope of having only ONE cell phone & account (& bill!) that I'll use.
