Question Two palm devices on one computer, is it possible?

Is it possible to connect and sync my Visor Platinum and my wife's Palm III on the same home computer? If so, can it be done if mine is USB and her's is using the older COM port method, or do I need to get the USB adaptor for my wife's? I'm just curious as we'd both like to be able to sync up, individually if possible.

Thanks,

Lee

MultiPalm syncing

I found some info to my own question on the Handspring website. I'll give it a try tonight to see if it will work.

It's very possible. I sync a Handspring Visor Deluxe (USB, HS cradle), a Palm m125 (USB, Palm cradle), a PalmPilot Personal (serial), and (occasionally) a Palm IIIxe (serial, using the Personal's cradle) on one computer. Just make sure Local Serial AND Local USB are checked when you right-click the HotSync icon in your Windows taskbar tray.

But can you sync to different calendars. I dont really want my husbands contacts etc on my visor and vice versa. Is there a way to set up different profiles on outlook or palm desk top?

Thanks,

Palm Desktop will do this automatically, as long as your two devices have different names. In the upper-right corner of Palm Desktop, you'll have a pulldown which will let you easily choose between the two devices. My wife and I have been doing exactly what you propose (USB Visor and serial Palm) with no problems at all. Each user's data in the built-in apps are kept completely separate.

Your Internet Explorer will show two folders under the Program file "Palm" - one for your user name and another for your wife's. Each of these folders will have folders for back-up, calendar, memo etc. So there shouldn't be any problem with your databases being transferred to your wife's handheld. Just make sure that when you hotsync, you select your own user name.

You can also simplify installation of apps by using pinstall. This freeware is particularly handy when you only need to install a certain software and need not back up your databases at the moment. This standalone program will install directly without your having to change the "custom" settings of Hotsync.

I hope this helps.
