You MUST try the new handspring graffiti recognition patch for Prism/Platinum!!!
Try the new handspring version updater w/Graffiti recog improvement patch found at:
http://support.handspring.com/esupp...sType=Spotlight
INSTANT NOTICIBLE IMPROVEMENT !!!
no lie. on my Prism. wasn't bad before but not as good as Vdx. better now.
This is the same patch that has been available. The only thing they added was a bug fix for BitMap images. They just incorporated the V1.2 fixes into the V1.4 update. If you had already downloaded and installed V1.2 or your Prism came with it installed, you should not notice a difference in Graffiti.

GSR13,
I read your reply in another post as well and you are right according to the data on HS site about the patch. BUT, I really thought about it, but for SOME reason my graffiti really does seem noticably better.
Not only that, but my Prism is fairly new, being 1 month old. AND the first thing I did was install the latest update at that time, which was the 1.2.
Still though, I'm telling you, I'm not imagining things here. I sure hope someone else backs me up soon. Just yesterday, I was telling my sons how I have learned with age to go more with my instincts, instead of being too busy to notice or taking things at someone else's face value. If you 'feel' a difference, it's probably different.
I installed the new upgrade just because, no other intentions. I have a HS backup mod and so I can experiment at will. After the install, I just went about my biz.
Many hours later, I needed to write in my Prism twice and BOTH times, the graffiti 'spoke' to me. And I said back, "WOW", it must be that new patch. So there, I'm nuts. But now, I'm a happy nuts with 'better' graffiti.
Please understand that I was not doubting your improved graffiti, I was simply stating what Handspring's official propaganda was. Having installed the V1.4 patch I too have noticed improvements in Graffiti recognition. I have always had trouble with the number "9" and that certainly seems better. I would not put it past HS to improve the recognition and not really publicize it.
I do have a question, since your Prism is only about one month old, did it not already come with V1.2 installed? My first Prism did not and installed the 1.2 patch on it. Then when I had to have it replaced I used my Backup module to restore the new one and it would not restore the HSUpdater because it was already there.

It may have been 'old' in the box. Interestingly, my first Prism was DOA, and wouldn't take a charge. I have had no problems with this one except that the graffiti was never as good as Vdx. Maybe now it is. It will take a while for me to REALLY tell. I did install the 1st update as well to answer your question.
I'm sssssoooooooo glad that you too noticed a graffiti improvement, because I thought I was nuts to think so especially after reading the same PR release that you did, and then to have you bring it up again.... AAAAHHHH!
I'm still noticing graffiti improvements everyday.........

Actually, gbgood, I think I may have an explanation of why you experienced a sudden tremendous improvement in your Graffiti recognition over the V1.2 update.
I'm a Prism owner and had installed the V1.2 update on my Prism to fix the Graffiti recognition problem that I had when I bought it.
For a while, things worked great and Graffiti recognition was excellent.
Then one day, I did a warm reset (holding the UP button while pushing the reset switch) and, although I didn't notice it at first, Graffiti recognition got bad again.
Suspecting something, I checked out "Info" in my Prism's Launcher screen and under "Version", it had reverted back to "PalmOS v3.5.2H" instead of "..v3.5.2H1..".
I came to the conclusion that the warm reset had actually REMOVED the Handspring updater file.
I confirmed this by reinstalling the V1.2 updater again and then doing another warm reset -- sure enough, the updater was removed once again.
Therefore, I believe that while the updater fixed the Graffiti problem on your Prism before, at some point you had to perform a warm reset on your machine and the updater was removed.
Therefore, when you reinstalled the V1.4 update, the Graffiti problem was fixed again.
So the question is: Did you at some point warm reset your Prism after the update?
I just tested doing a warm reset with the new V1.4 updater and sure enough, it also gets deleted when you do a warm reset. Try installing the update, then check the version of PalmOS you have and again AFTER doing a warm reset.

I'm not sure it is getting deleted. When you perform a warm reset, it bypasses all patches and other "running" applications like hackmaster, X-master, etc. A warm reset is meant as more of a way to help trouble shoot a problem application, and you should do a regular reset after you have resolved the problem. You won't get the full benefit of your apps otherwise.

Yes, I didn't mention it, but I DID perform a regular soft reset after the warm reset and the patch is GONE.
Try it out for yourself and see. Check the "Info" and then "Version" on the Visor after installing the patch, then do a WARM reset, followed by a SOFT reset. Next, check "Info/Version" again -- you'll notice that the Visor will have automatically deleted the V1.4 patch and reverted to the PalmOS version BEFORE the patch...plus, the patch is no longer present in memory.
It's very strange -- a warm reset usually only disables hacks and other hooks on the system, but for some reason, it deletes the updater.

Hmmmm. Interesting. I don't have this problem with my Visor, but I have a VDX and not a Prism. I perform soft, warm and hard resets quite regularly while testing beta software, and I have never seen this problem. I wonder if it is related to Palm OS 3.5 machines or just the Prism?

If I'm not wrong, Handspring in fact DOES flash the latest updates into subsequent Visors.
I know the very first update, V1.1 WAS flashed into Visor Prisms newer than mine (mine was the first, without any updates at all and the irritating peeling paint problem).

Pre-installed
Got my Prism with the HS Updater 1.2 pre-installed. I toll notice and improvement in graffiti ad general responsiveness with the new 1.4 update.
Much much better grafitti recognition after the update!
It's like a whole new Prism
My accuracy seems to have gone up after the update as well.
I use the periodical cleaner Victor 3.5 and after a soft reset it's still there fine. If the resets are giving you problems you might want to try that. I have to reset once in a while anyhow because of the non-recharging problem with the Prisms.
Oh BTW, I do notice an improvement with the graffiti.
Well, this is interesting... Handspring has pulled the 1.4 update, claiming it causes problems with some apps.
http://support.handspring.com/esupp...esType=RESEARCH
Portable Innovation Technologies recommends you remove update 1.4 if you're using the MemPlug, as it causes problems with PiDirect.
This is really a bummer -- because for the first time, my Prism is as good at recognizing Graffiti as my other Palm devices with the 1.4 update installed.
I hope Handspring fixes whatever the conflict is. I certainly don't want to go back to the 1.1 Graffiti recognition. But MemPlug with my spare 128MB CompactFlash card is really sweet...

It's really weird, because I wasn't experiencing any problems with the 1.4 update, nor with the PiDirect running with the current update.
What type of problems was it exactly that caused Handspring to pull it?
I too hope they're working on fixing the problem!
Same here Shakes, - no problems using PiDirect 1.61 with the 1.4 update.
Oddly had some problems designing TinyBytes with the trial of ThinkDB and their support have just recommended I removed the HS update - and it now works!
still worth it?
Do you think its still worth using if you dont run PiDirect or any other program they suppose it has problems with? I mean...i didnt see a real difference, but it made me feel a bit better about how my Prism runs...
I don't use the memplug so I'm keeping the patch.
