All I am saying is that while it may be difficult and often impossible to avoid war on this planet, it is not true that war is inevitable. War can be avoided, there are very good examples of this, and also examples in which this did not work.

You seem to think I am trying to say war is something of the past and does not take place anymore, or will vanish from Earth soon, which is *not* what I am saying.

Take the US of A: not so long ago, there was a war between the states. Don't tell me you have not found a way to avoid that in the future. Therefore it has been convincigly shown that wars between US states are *not* inevitable.

I case with "inevitable" you mean "there will always be a war somewhere on this planet for the foreseeable future", I can agree with you, but that is not the same as "war is inevitable".

Indeed the conclusions you deduced from Star Trek did not sound ironic to me. In Germany, there used to be a very popular "realistic" soap opera called "Lindenstrasse" because of the street it played in. Many people seemed to have lost the ability to differentiate between that soap opera and real life. For instance, when an appartment was for rent in TV, people would wright real and serious applications for that appartment. Or when one of the characters in the story was missing for some reason, the actor was stopped on the street and people told her to go back and tell the people in Lindenstrasse she was alive and ok...

And, miraculously, this brings us back the the topic of this thread: Arnold, the Governator. How many people will vote for him only because of the roles he played in his movies?

Allmost got most of europe killed in it too..

I'm not sure. You can't ignore the value of star power, esp. in a race where most of the "serious" candidates look and act like animatronic contraptions.

Many Conservatives and/or Repulicans want to vote for a fiscally conservative candidate, which he has made positive noises about.

I'd like to believe that the voters will actually take the time to vet the candidates based on their positions as opposed to their "cult of personality", but it is California.

Does Unleaded really cost $2.25 a gallon there? We think it's high at $1.69!

If any humans remain, I'd put money on another war not too long afterward.

The only way I can envision an end to war would be the reduction of our species to 1. And even then I'm not so sure... I've seen too many people at war with themselves (why does that seem to me to be a nice lead-in into medical marijuana?).

You know, maybe if all the dilettantes would stop smoking the skunk for fun (and profit) the medical angle might gain some ground. Right now it runs together in a lot of peoples minds with heroin and acid.

Being from FL, thank you for making sure the election spotlight is pointed somewhere else!

As to the START of this thread -- I'm rooting for Gary Coleman. Heck, if he wins he can move the state capitol to where it belongs -- Disneyland! Oh wait, Fantasyland ... then he could have the governor's chair made out of 'Corinthian Leather' and a little short guy running around mumbling something about a plane ... Sorry wrong Fantasy location ... OMG, now we're back to that porn thing again ...
