-- Can I use PalmIIIc & VisorPrism with same Computer? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10087)
Hi,
Been using Palm IIIc for past few months. Got Visor Prism the other day to try out.
Can I use both devices with my Mac?
If so, how? Doesn't Visor use slightly modified version of Palm's software?
Thanks for any advice.
Mark
Yes - maybe

I'm not familiar enough with the mac os to be certain but on a PC (those hated words for Mac Users) you can have multiple Palms on the platform however you must have different user names otherwise when synching certain system files that work on one unit won't work on the other. Sound familiar - it's like loading a Microsoft file onto a Mac and expecting it to work.
During your initial install of the III you should have been prompted for a user name. You should also be able to add a new user to the "tools menu" user option of the Palm Desktop.
If the above is true then the next step would be to install the Palm Desktop software that came with the Prism and then select a new user during that installation.
If you want to keep all of your existing shareware on the III and your plan is to migrate everything to the Prism then you'll have to commit to only one user name. Back up the III first then install the desktop software and choose the user name and then sync the Prims following the on screen instructions. This will eliminate any incompatible files (OS resident issues) that are proprietary to the III and be certain to install only the Prism compatible versions and then you are set. If you sync both machines using only one user name you will only be able to get rid of the incompatible files by doing a hard reset. The initial sync should realize their is new hard ware and upload all of your files intact with possible minor exceptions. Those minor exceptions should be able to be beamed to the Prism.
The Palm Desktop software, upon launching, will verify which user you want to use and will be compatible with either unit. You'd simply choose the user you want to view those specific user files.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify the situation. I really appreciate it!
Meanwhile, I broke down and called Visor Tech Support this morning and they said the only way to have a Palm and a Visor co-exist on one computer is to
A. Have different profiles for each if you have a PC or
B. Have different users for each if you have a Mac
Since each has to use its own version of the Palm Desktop software. Visor modified Palm's software.
