Question Backlight of Neo and Pro????

What sort of backlight does these two new models use??

Inverted?? If so, *sigh* why don't HS ever listen to us?

i email james(i think he was the writer for neo and pro) about how strong the backlight is compared to the other visor. and i will reply when he email me back.

Thumbs up

I have GreenLightHack activated in my new Pro and it works beautifully. The problem I had with my IVX was that the backlight would revert to the original inverted form whenever I went out of the original screen I started with. With the Pro it works just fine.

Erm, wow, to those who are reading this and OWN a Neo or Pro, how's it compared to the Visor Deluxe or Plat??

SO, the backlight of the Neo and Pro IS STILL INVERTED???

Maybe if HS doesn't come out with a color one at the end of November, I think I might go for the Visor Edge, or maybe the Visor Pro...
I havent got any word that Singapore is bringing them in yet...

Well, it's only been a day, but I'm thrilled!

I stayed with the HandSpring because of the total investment I've got in SpringBoards (which I use regularly) and because I felt that the value of the Pro, in relation to the way I use it & new features, justified the upgrade. I do a lot of data-intensive work (WordSmith / HanDBase / ActionNames / Quicken) and the increase in speed is fantastic. The increase in onboard storage space allows me to carry a far broader range of data with me and as a bonus the appearance is quite classic. I like the looks of the Pro better than the others out there - understated elegance.

I will admit that I did not comparison shop, other than to keep up with the general state of various models and prices. I find the usability of the SpringBoards to be so great that until something better comes along, or until I find a suitable replacement, I'll stay with them and HandSpring.

I am seriously considering upgrading to the Pro, also (from a Deluxe). Can you tell me if it is the same size as the Deluxe and Platinum? I have a Handspring leather case that I would like to continue to use. If I can still use it (along with all of my other accessories) I will most likely upgrade. Also, can you tell a major difference between the color of the Platinum and the Pro? I couldn't see much of a difference. I am not interested in a color pda, I really don't care for the design of the Edge, and like you said, I like the understated elegance of the silver casing of the Pro. Also, did you have any problems transferring your programs and data from your Deluxe to the Pro? How did you do it?

Thanks!

P.S. Where did you purchase your Pro? I haven't seen it in any stores in my area!

If only they made the Neo RECHARGABLE... like the Pro. I would pick the Neo over the Pro, cos I dun like to spend my time charging my rechargable AAAs and to swap them when the charge is low.

I admire those Clie users, even the low-end S300 have rechargables built-in...

Or, if they had the pretty colors available for the Pro, I would THEN get the Pro.

In the meantime, I'll wait and see. Whether a color model will be out before Dec25 ;p

you can make your visor rechargable with this:

i bought it almost a year ago (november last year) and i love it.

But doesn't the LiIon battery have a longer life (number of cycles, not hours per cycle) than the NIMH's?
And I don't like that they charge $20. for replacement batteries for the FullCharge, when you can pick hi-cap NIMH's for $2. a piece, last I looked.

It seems to me that it is the exact same size. I have three different cases I use for different needs and it fits perfectly in all three. One of the reasons I'm sticking with the Visor is that I can continue to use my StowAway, Targas voice recorder, etc.

I don't know if there is much of a difference. It's a small thing, but the soft silver color and the translucent gray cover look great!

No problem at all. I backed up my Deluxe and "restored" everything to my Pro. Then I took by 8 meg module, checked everything and copied it onto the Pro. QED! The whole process took about 10 minutes!

I ordered via the HandSpring website on Monday afternoon. (OK, I paid $11 bucks for premium shipping! ) The Airborne Express tracking showed it was picked up in Utah (?!) Monday night, arrived in Manchester NH Tuesday morning and was at my door by 1 pm in the afternoon, 22 hours after I placed the order! What a change from winter of '99!

Good Luck!

Wow.. you guys seem to be impressed with the Pro and Neo...

How I wished I could get one right away... but I got no credit card ;p

Yea, I've seen the ExtendComputer's recharagbles.. pretty expensive...
I got my Fujitsu AAAs (4 of them) and a universal batt charger for less than SGD$40 (which is about USD$25?)

One thing I dislike about the Visor is that many accessories cannot be used. You got to buy "VISOR-SPECIFIC" ones... and not others...

for example, if I like the case very much, I will need velcro or something to stick it on. That sucks.
This goes the same for Stylii as well. For example, Visor dont have a Floating Point. Unlike for Palm(R) PDAs...

Anyway, I heard from Landware that they will be making a FloatingPoint for Visor end of the year... hopefully it is true..

Exclamation backlight

Hey everybody.
I just bought the Visor Neo (Blue) and I must say, I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I will admit this is the first PDA I have ever owned but I don't see anything wrong with an inverted backlight...especially when you consider it saves alot of battery life....will supply details to that upon request.
Alex.

Posted by jeremyf on 09-23-2001 09:11 AM:

I bought a smoke Visor Neo and I like it. It's the first PDA I've owned but I've had experience with others.

To me, it seems exactly like a Visor Edge in a nicer Visor Deluxe case. The backlight etc. are exactly like it.

I'm happy with it, but I'm thinking of returning it to get a Visor Pro. I don't see why the 8mb costs an additional $100. It should be $249.

Two "problems" I've noticed:

1) Like many reviews have said, the Neo SMUDGES LIKE NUTS! The case (at least the back) smudges about as easily as the screen. It's not a big deal though, especially since I usually keep mine in my case (so far).

2) I've noticed a couple tiny hairline "cracks" (or SOMETHING) by my up/down buttons. One is near the center of the top one going up and the second is in between the two on the right side. They're tiny and I can only see them in the right light, but if they're ALREADY like that (I've had it 2 days), I can only imagine what's going to happen. This is the main reason I'm thinking of switching for the Visor Pro.

Anyone else have these "cracks" with the Neo or other Visors?

Also, how's the Visor Pro case?

Posted by Zip-Zilla on 09-23-2001 10:19 AM:

Red face

Whoa. That serious?
Maybe it's a QC problem, you ought to contact the store and request for a change or something...

Or contact Handspring...

Cheers
/andre

That's funny, after reading what you have to say, I looked at my blue Neo and noticed the same cracks. The top one is just slightly to the right of the center and the middle is just slightly to the right of the top one...that is bizarre that two Neos would both have the same cracks. I'm going to Handspring about this, though I have had my eye on the Edge....
Alex.

Posted by jeremyf on 09-24-2001 08:09 AM:

Hmm, weird. I don't know if the top one came that way but I swear I saw only the top one at first and then the second one appeared later. I could be wrong and it may have came that way?

Anyone else have a Neo who sees/doesn't see these cracks on theirs?

Posted by kamizuno on 09-24-2001 09:50 AM:

Forgive me for asking, but are you guys sure these are cracks you are noticing? FWIW, the old Visor Deluxes were known for having mold lines that looked like cracks. Of course, they also had a few that really were cracked, so I'm not saying yours aren't cracked, just wondering if you might be seeing mold lines instead of cracks.
