Unhappy

I've read in various threads that iSilo (I have a registered copy) is compatible with the 8MB module. My experience is that every time I move all my iSilo files to the SpringBoard and try to run iSilo, then my Visor crashes. When I move them, the File Mover software warns me: "we recommend that you copy it instead. Moving it may cause its associated application to crash." I'm interested in moving them, not just copying, because I want to free up the memory, and my ebooks are among the largest files I have. When I try to read iSilo files from the 8MB module I get "Fatal Error Memory MgrNew.c Line 1862: Not a Handle"

Any advice?

I use iSilo reg ver. 2.55 without any problem. I have the program as well as 4 different documents installed on the 8mb flash module, one is larger than 1mb itself. I have even placed bookmarks while reading the files off the flash module and there is no problem. I think the bookmark information must be kept in a small RAM based file separate from the main file. I have a couple of thoughts about your crashing problem:

1) did you upgrade the 8mb flash module software to ver. 1.1? I understand that it fixes fatal exception problems that some people were having that sound like yours. See the handspring website for the download and details.

2) Do you have any hacks active? If so I'd disable them all (including 'hack-like' apps such as Launch'Em in the always on configuration or CICs Wordcomplete) and try again. If this fixes the problem then activate them individually one at a time to try to identify the offending hack.

3) If your iSilo version is different from mine contact the author to get an update.

I'd start with the 8mb flash OS update to ver. 1.1 first. I'd bet this is most likely to be the problem. I would also move any data on the module back to RAM first and then reformat the module with the new OS as instructed in the documentation that comes with the upgrade.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. I followed your suggestions, and was still having problems, so I moved my files one at a time into the module, each time running iSilo...to see if a specific file might have been the problem. It turns out that there's a file called ToGoDB listed among all the iSilo files in File Mover. If I move ToGoDB to the module, iSilo crashes; if I leave it in the Visor's main memory, I'm ok.

Out of curiosity, I looked at the listings for iSilo & all its associated ebooks in the program Z'Catalog, and saw that the "Creator" of every one of these files is ToGo. Then I read the iSilo FAQ & found out that iSilo was preceded by a program called ToGo.

That must be where the bookmarks and other changeable data for all the documents are stored. It should be very small. Glad you solved your problems. Hope you're saving lots of RAM!!! Using iSilo and my databases in Flash is the biggest reason that I prefer it over other doc readers.
