I have an early iMac with Ir (Rev A). Is it even possible to sync with a Visor? And what software will this require? Of course I can use usb, but is that my only option?

Yes, it can be done and it works great. You'll need IrLink from www.iscomplete.com, and also an updated driver that's available on the palm website. IrLink is still in beta; the current beta expires on Jan 16 but I'm told that a final version will be available by then for $20. TI imagine they'll still e-mail you the beta if you ask.

At MacWorld these were the instructions being handed out for people that wanted to IrSync on their iMac:

quote:

IR HotSync with IrLink for your iMac or PowerMac

1) Download Apple's IrDA IrCOMM driver for your iMac or PowerMac for the IR Port to communicate with your Palm Pilot use either: http://palm.3com.com/custsupp/downl...rashqx3leg.html (25 MB) or http://palm.3com.com/custsupp/downl...rasbin3leg.html (18.3MB)

2) Download the IrDA IrCOMM driver for Palm Pilot @ http://palm.3com.com/custsupp/downloads/irenhanc.html

3) Download IrLink from http://www.ISComplete.com/IrLink start with the 45 day trail version.

Please follow the readme.txt in Ir Enhance Update and index.html for IrLink carefully. This is very crucial in allowing your PalmPilot to Hotsync via IR with your iMac or PowerMac. If you have any question in regard of IrLink setup, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]

I haven't been able to test this as I don't have an iMac.
