Question

will there be a wirelss modem for visor which will make it equil to the palm VII?

Also,

I was cosidering cancelling my order. I had ordered it on November 12th. Nothing yet and I am getting frustrated. However, I went shopping and the palm V is expensive and does not seam to be as good as the visor. The VII is probably better because of the wireless modem.

I download the manual from the HS sight and it talkes about modem connectivity. I'm not familar enough with the VII to comment on how similar it is.

I ordered on Nov 12th too. I hate waiting, but HS said it would be 4-6 weeks and we're sitting at alittle over 3. I knew this going in and I do not feel like they're late yet. I just want it before I make the Christmas trip to the inlaws so I have something to play with.

Cool

"will there be a wirelss modem for visor which will make it equil to the palm VII?"

I sure hope not - I thought about the Palm VII and decided it wasn't a great implementation of wireless. Visor hopefully can do much better. The Palm VII is very expensive and it requires access to expensive wireless services. I'd much rather have a data cable that plugs into a wireless phone.

It's only 3 weeks! It's supposed to be up to 6 weeks (unless you're stupid like me and ordered before Oct. 25).

I'd like to see an internet service similar, but a bit more fully functional than the new wireless web service from Sprint PCS. In fact I would not be surpirsed if one of their hardware manufacturers siezes the day and makes a springboard for Visor's that allows access to Sprint's wireless web. The best thing is that the wireless web is only ~$20 a month (I'm not quite sure what kind of bandwidth you get for this amount)

I'm wondering why people are going gaga over US$20/mo wireless for a PDA? Sounds expensive to me. I use a GSM digital phone and get 200 minutes a month for ~US$15. I use about 100-150 minutes/mo for voice. For email, I could easily get by with 50 minutes I'm sure. So, with a software "modem" and a cheap serial cord I could have "free" email access, since those extra minutes are already paid for, especially considering that I take my phone EVERYWHERE with me anyway. Surfing the net is another story though. Lotsa minutes there, but if we use that same web clipping technology, via standard dialup then it's again much cheaper than those PDA-specific wireless networks (and more versatile).

Am I missing something? It just seems to me that the added benefit of 19.2 kbps doesn't outweigh its costs and limitations as compared to the 9.6 kbps GSM networks. Sure, we have to already subscribe to GSM, but around here a digital GSM phone costs about US$50 with SIM card and monthly charges are $15 or so, depending on options.

Comments are welcome.

Hmmm... It seems those other clipping wireless networks cost upwards of $50 sometimes, not $20 like I thought.

As for the CDMA SprintPCS for $20, it is just what I was talking about. Why do you consider it limited? (Note that I think it's $10 extra for data but I dunno. I dunno the specifics either.) For www.bellmobility.ca up here in Canada it's just pay as you go (assuming you already have some other voice plan):

"Pricing

Digital Data to Go Pricing

There are no activation or monthly service fees with Digital DATA to Go. Digital Data calls cost just 15 cents a minute and you only pay for what you use*. Digital Data calls are billed by the second and appear separately on your monthly statement. Digital data minutes are included in the RealTime 1500 and RealTime 2500 rate plans."
