-- AAAH!! Trouble with USB HotSynch (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2191)

Unhappy

I got my Visor Deluxe about a week ago and loved it. No problem setting it up or hot synching. Then last night I got the error that "the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. please check your setup and try again." I checked the cables, no problem, I checked the connection between Visor and cradle, assuming no problem since the cradle button turns on the Visor. I read the handspring.com troubleshooting guide and soft reset my machine. It synched. End of problem.

Until today. Synched it this afternoon, no problem. Tried to synch it again maybe 20 minutes later and it acted like it did last night. Soft reset it, and it still wont work. Restarted the Hot Synch manager, it still wont work. Rebooted Windows and nothing.

I'm ready to scream! Anyone have any suggestions?

I have had this problem too. Are you using a USB hub? I had my cradle connected to a USB hub at first but when I connected it directly to the computer it worked much better. I dont know if that had anything to do with it though. I still have the problem every now and then, but now a soft reset combined with restarting the hotsync manager usually does the trick for me. Sometimes I have to do a soft reset and restart my desktop though.

moving this to the top along with the other hotsync problems...i have the same problem, but i have it connected directly to the USB port (no hub). software reset and hotsync reset does no good for me...

Try going into HotSync Manager, disabling HotSync and then re-enabling it. It worked for me. I think that what happens is sometimes after you hotsync, your USB or serial port remains in use for some reason.

I too have many problems with Hot SYncing. I had to install and unstall the software several times before it would even work. Now I have to soft reset my Visor every day in order to Hot Sync. It seems to work for now. I've tried to call Support. but you know how that is, way too long of wait. Any Ideas on how I can avoid having to do this would be appreciated.

I have problems with USB sync as well. At work (under NT), I have a serial cradle, and it works quite reliably. However at home where I have USB with Win98, I have to soft-reset about 30% of the time to make sync work -- in some cases two attempts in a row will result in the first one working, but not the second one. Argh.

Surely Handspring must have heard about this. Any scuttlebut?
